I'm thinking it opens lower than Spectre but higher than Quantum. Long runtimes are a huge gamble for non-Marvel movies, and older audiences (which are Bond's bread and butter) are not interested in going to theaters right now. I personally think little kids not being able to get the vaccine is a big factor here. A lot of these adults also happen to be parents, and they definitely don't want to risk the lives of their vulnerable children. Once that vaccine is approved, then I think we'll start seeing older folks returning to the movies.
I'm honestly surprised no one online has brought this up as a possibility.

Not too surprised Bond is looking like a disappointment. It's looking more and more like older audiences have permanently moved on from theaters as the past year has shown. This seems to be more of an American problem though, as evident by how Bond and Dune have been doing internationally.

Part Two simply won't get made unless hell freezes over and this movie is a big hit in the States. Alita also did decently internationally, but it bombed in the US, so no sequel for you!
SpoilerAnd no Edward Norton as Nova either!
Believe me, I would love to be proven wrong. But do you really think the GA will want to go out of their way to see a seemingly slow-burn, artsy movie based on a book they haven't read in a theater? They'll simply either skip it, or watch it from the comfort of their homes after seeing the word of mouth from the fans.

Dune's an unknown property, so the only folks who will see this on the big screen are the die-hard film nerds and book fans. Everyone else will be staying at home and watching this on HBO Max, since it's not a big IP like Marvel or Fast & Furious and is therefore not worth the hassle. Prepare for another paltry $30M opening followed by a massive 70% drop.
It's why I'm not fully sure if I want to see this movie just yet. On one hard, it looks great and I would love to be part of a big fantasy phonemenon since Lord of the Rings came out just as I was born. On the other hand, this first movie is apparently just a "Part One" and doesn't tell the complete story. And that Part Two is highly unlikely to happen.

I think it is getting to $90m+ today, or at least a good shot.
Any updates on the Saturday?

Is Venom increasing from the first in other countries too?
In Russia as well. Unfortunately Bond is preventing this from being a true worldwide launch. It's only out in the US and Russia as of now, and it will open in most of the world by the 15th.

18-34 the dominant demo. Older adults still not back...
Not a great sign for Bond in the US. Even worse for Dune.

I can't believe it, but $37m.

Another 75-80M opener. We have found our pandemic ceiling.
If @charlie Jatinder's projections hold, then it'll be even higher than that. Highly likely this ends up taking Black Widow's crown and being the biggest domestic opening of the year.

Yikes at that Newark score. Is it really that bad of a movie? Biggest second weekend drop for a 2021 Warner film incoming!
-
So, the second biggest preview number of the year is more or less guaranteed at this point, right?
-
I'm willing to bet James Gunn, being a fan of the theatrical experience, likely convinced the studio to move the HBO Max release up to Thursday evening (in US time) and that's why his movie is, to my knowledge, the only Warner movie this year to have Thursday night previews. Makes sense, since Warner marketed the whole thing around him.

Guess WB doesn't like free publicity.
I'm guessing they're counting on the early international WoM to bring in that.

How many post credit scenes are there?
Just the one mid-credits stinger that everyone and their mother has been talking about.

Waiting for Disney now since the rest of the movies is a bunch of dead weight.
Let's see how good Free Guy's drop is this time around. Last weekend's was its best one yet.
Will Shang-Chi be able to get to $200M domestically by the time Venom 2 arrives?

Unsurprisingly, a play which already had a problematic premise didn't translate well to the big screen. Not a big shock.
Sucks for Universal, but Candyman held pretty well and they have Bond 25 out next week outside the US.
-
Another dry weekend with the only new notable release being a movie no one ever asked for, starring a sociopath who they want you to root for for some reason.
Thankfully, next weekend should be a busy one for multiplexes across the world. The US will enjoy Venom 2 while the rest of the world goes to see Bond 25.

Digital rips of the film have begun circulating online, ahead of the official VOD release.

I wonder if the recent IATSE news is the reason why this delay happened. If they strike, then Hollywood as a whole is likely going into a long coma. I could see this delay as Warner preparing for such an outcome.

I'm guessing Hasbro will take Transformers elsewhere after Rise of the Beasts. Matt Shakman's Star Trek movie is probably either dead or a cheap Paramount+ affair. They sure as hell ain't putting out another big screen Star Trek after Beyond underperformed, especially when even the previous regime had trouble getting it off the ground.
It'll be interesting to see how many movies they do put out in theaters per year moving forward.

This is looking to be one of the biggest trainwrecks in all of cinema (and even fiction in general). One of the most beloved and prestigious entertainment brands in the world, and Shiggy decided to choose fucking Illumination, the Minion factory of all studios.
I instantly knew it would be a celebrity-loaded, pop culture-infested 2hip4u take on Mario the second the news hit. Who the fuck had the idea to cast Chris fucking Pratt as Mario?! Jack Black as Bowser?1 Seth Rogen as
Smokey BongDonkey Kong?!I honestly hope this pulls a Detective Pikachu and underperforms, because if this is a hit then Illumination might set their eyes on my childhood hero Kirby. I really don't want that.

Who is this even for? Even the Potterheads hated the last movie. And they're the only ones who would even be remotely interested in seeing these. General audiences were burnt out after part 2, and don't even get me started on the transgender community's thoughts.
At least the latter group will have front row seats for one of the biggest trainwrecks of the last few years. I'd grab my popcorn if I were them, because the circus has only just started.

NO TIME TO DIE WEEKEND THREAD | Bond 56M, Venom 32M
in Numbers and Data

A Spectre-like IM would get this to $84M, which seems a little high to me. Especially since Spectre started at 7 PM compared to 4 PM for this one. Let's see what happens.
