  1. The movie just wrapped filming so I'm not expecting anything beyond a 30-second spot focusing on a practical scene without much in the way of effects. They can get such an ad done on time. But I do agree that we likely won't be getting a full trailer for a couple more months yet. If I had to guess it'll be May with Apes.
  2. Argylle... I just finished watching itthrough a theater recording since it isn't playing here, and that was one of the stupidest, most nonsensical movies ever made. And not in a good way like Malignant. It was pretty bad and infuriatingly dumb. What Apple saw in that script is beyond me. The twists are all just as bad as everyone online is saying. The acting was generally hokey and phoned in. The action was largely forgettable. And it just looked atrocious, especially when that cat became CGI. It was also a tonal mess. It's not objectively as bad as Apple's last movie Napoleon, and there are a couple of cool, if rather artificial-looking, setpieces in the third act. But I thought it still was really bad. No wonder why word of mouth is so toxic for it, and why it flopped so badly this weekend. I really hope Apple's other two tentpoles for the year are better.
  3. Wow, I just realized I'm the third most frequent poster in this thread. I'm in the big leagues now!
  4. That second weekend drop is going to be legendary, between the awful word of mouth and the Super Bowl. Could it get to a 90% drop?
  5. Is it just me, or has this film developed some impressive late staying power? Last month we were doubting if it'd cross $200M. Now, not only did it cross that, but it's still making nearly $5M on a weekend a month and a half into its run. I wonder where it'll ultimately end up in the end. Great for both Paul King and Little Timmy though, and they'll likely return to Warner in the future as long as Zsasz reigns himself in. Let's see how many tickets your husbando sells next month.
  6. After a year where most nostalgia tentpoles either underperformed or bombed, that one is best suited for Netflix. People won't pay up for them anymore, but they'll be happy to watch it on a service at home that they're most likely already subscribed to beforehand. I feel like Beverly Hills Cop 4 wouldn't do all that much better than, say, My Greek Wedding 3. It'd be lucky to even make half as much as The Flash.
  7. The Internet's tendency to fall for painfully obvious bait gets me every time. I hope you're all happy giving them the attention they ordered. They'll probably start shitting on Oppenheimer or something next.
  8. Yeah, I remember hearing reports about it being heavily cut down after King of the Monsters failed. Thankfully, unlike many other situations like this in Hollywood, Adam Wingard seems to have had a decent seat at the table through it all, as indicated by him gleefully returning for this one. And this time they went in with the knowledge of what the fans truly want instead of having to retroactively change the movie after filming, so hopefully the movie is great and it pays off next month.
  9. If it's as good as the last movie, I can see this happening. But I'm not sure, with two movies' worth of goodwill and the incredible hook it has, that it'll open that low. Again, if it's good, I'm thinking this opens with at least $80M.
  10. Remember when Batman v Superman was seen as a special event because of just how bad its word of mouth was? Good times. Now we get a sea of BvS'es all year round. The deterioration of Hollywood this decade will be one for the history books.
  11. Massive money losses like this bring this forum together like nothing else.
  12. Wait a second... I recognize that guy in the middle: PABLO IS IN THIS MOVIE! $3B THURSDAY NIGHT PREVIEWS GUARANTEED!
  13. Everyone already knows. In fact, it was out in the open for years, as early as from back when the movie was first announced. In the social media age, word spreads faster than light. And with their friends digging the old announcement up and posting on Twitter and TikTok about it, why should people fork the money to see a movie that can't stand on its own without that surprise factor?
  14. That leaves only Shadow's actor as the big mystery surrounding this movie. My guess is he, along with the first trailer, will be revealed at Comic-Con.
  15. The lowest regular opening weekend ever for a $200M+ movie. I have no words.
  16. NO WAY NO FUCKING WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
  17. Because it was similarly upgraded from Hulu to a theatrical release after test screenings.
  18. As an international fan who's dying to see Minus One but can't since it seemingly isn't getting a theatrical release in my country, I'm actually in favour of it landing on demand as soon as possible. It already did what it needed to do, and then some.
  19. Between The Boogeyman's unremarkable performance, and the Star Wars baggage Daisy Ridley has been saddled with, keeping the theatrical release limited is understandable. If it performs well, then they can expand it later in the summer. But even if it underperforms and goes to Disney+ without a wider release, the small scale of the release will ensure Disney will barely lose anything on it, and at least the movie will qualify for the Oscars. So Disney wins either way. They can even use this is a litmus test to see if Ridley can still carry a movie even after her last vehicles were destroyed by studio incompetence, and decide what to do with the in-development Rey movie.
  20. Tenet should not count, as barely any theaters were open in the US when it launched during extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime circumstances. Argylle is opening in a fully operational marketplace devoid of any real competition that could use more movies to bide its time until Dune 2 properly starts the year. It has no excuse to open this low, unless the movie is unappealing and unwatchable. Our distributor likely saw what was coming and scaled back the release in my country significantly, thus it won't be playing in my area and I won't be able to see it in theaters, so I can't say for myself how bad it truly is. Hopefully our denizens will enlighten us in the weekend thread tonight.
  21. A $200M movie opening this low and maybe not even making it to the double digits would be insane. Could this be the biggest bomb of all time?
  22. They might save the trailer for both the series and the next movie for Comic-Con. They could then release Knuckles in November to lead into Sonic 3 in December.
  23. Len Wiseman making a mess isn't too surprising. Entrusting him with a beloved property like John Wick is almost as bad as giving the Cloverfield Paradox guy a Captain America movie. And now both studios are paying the price by having to essentially remake their respective movies, possibly making them even worse as seen by Josstice League. If I was a shareholder for either I'd be pissed and call for their heads.
  24. The DC brass is the one who should be concerned, since they supposedly have him attached to The Authority. That'll most likely not be case anymore after Argylle bombs, but considering Andy Muschietti is apparently still attached to their Batman reboot, they might just try to make it work instead.
  25. Between Barbie last year, Dune 2 this year and possibly Superman next year, Warner can gain a lot of leverage on exhibitors by essentially supplying them with gallons of water in a scorching hot, desolate desert. If they play their cards right they can become the next Disney, or at least the closest thing to it.
