The Deadline projection for Free Guy is actually going to happen, isn't it?

That review embargo isn't that early, only 4 days from release. So I'll keep my optimism cautious for now.
How is the movie, though? Have any of the usual insiders commented on this yet?
-
That release date is absolute ass. Not only is it only 5 days after No Way Home, but it also launches on the exact same day as Matrix 4. Sounds like Disney doesn't have too much confidence in this and wants to quietly dump this much like Spies in Disguise.
This thing has been sitting on a shelf for 2 years now. Keep in mind, if it wasn't for the Disney takeover we would've seen this movie all the way back in November 2019.

Tickets go on sale next Monday.
Right after Free Guy's opening weekend. Convenient. Gives them an easy out in case Free Guy underperforms.

Is there any chance that Free Guy will open bigger than JC?
It's not impossible. Presales around the States seem to range from being on par with Jungle Cruise to better than it. We'll get a clearer picture within the next few days.

Hugh Jackman? More like Hugh R. Susman!
-
Important heads up: If you don't want the cameos some reviewers were alluding to spoiled, then do not read the Cast section of the Wikipedia page for this. Just saying.
-
Free Guy doing $30M in its opening weekend isn't too unlikely. Anything beyond that will depend on how the presales go next week.

So, who's going to move first? No Way Home is Sony's magnum opus, so I imagine they'll be the first.
-
Another 60% drop for Snake Eyes?!
They really should just dump it on Paramount+ already. Are they really going to wait out 45 days?

from DL for next two Disney titles.
Both of those sound far too pessimistic to be true. I'm willing to bet The Suicide Squad coming in below (already low) expectations must have scared them.

How's Jungle Cruise doing? I'm very curious about the second weekend drop.

I'm talking globally.

if Dune is amazing (and I’m sure it will be) then who cares if WB don’t want to shell out for the second half? We’re now in a world where a Netflix or an Apple would be only too happy to take it off their hands and give Villeneuve whatever he wants.
That depends on who has the Dune license. If it's Legendary, then the scenario you're describing might just happen.
-
Next week might be a pretty painful one for us, as the fall slate will likely rot away piece by piece. Paramount blinked by shelving Clifford already. Who's next?
-
Australia has been phasing into and out of lockdowns at a rapid pace for the past month or so. The Venom 2 delay there is likely because of that.
No, the real meltdown will begin once the Suicide Squad weekend numbers are out. We're most likely getting a new wave of delays next week. The question at this point is, who's going to blink first? Sony? Disney? Universal?
Also, shoutout to Zatt for bringing up the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man as a valid point as to how 2022 might be a better time for No Way Home. I'm glad I'm not alone on that.

Once Dune inevitably bombs, I feel like Denis will have no choice but to join the Netflix/streaming crowd like Martin Scorsese did. No way in hell the major studios give him anything after that.

James Cameron is likely not having a good weekend right now.

I won't be surprised if Free Guy topped TSS as the biggest grosser in August.
Not according to Deadline, which has it at $19M.
-
$30M is definitely out of the question. It's not a matter of if, but how much money WB is going to lose on this. Any hopes of a weekly release for Peacemaker will be nicely dashed after this weekend, since WB will likely dump it all at once and move on.

This day extracts a heavy toll.

Said exclusivity is neutered by it being only 45 days long, which a decent amount of people could know about and decide to just wait it out. That's a possibility.
