  1. I just read that Nolan might do The Prisoner next. My first impression was sheer excitement...but then I thought how the hell you make that in a movie? It was a hilarious mix of avant garde, campiness, and mystery. Nolan can for sure make the mystery but if he would try to do it more contemporary like changing Gotham City into New York, it loses a lot. Well, I would be excited and terrified to see how he pulls it off, adapting one of the all-time greatest shows.
  2. Tomorrow the latest even though we get the total OS numbers updated weekly and not daily. The coolest point for me is that Part Two over gross Part 1 in two weeks! Two weeks against a run of months.
  3. For sure, and he has mentioned as much too. In that interview he just stated five different films that influenced him regarding different aspects about Dune and Bergman was about close ups. I don't think David Lean was so far away in that regard too when having Lawrence of Arabia and Kwai river footage roll in my mind when writing this. Bergman was just over the top in framing close ups with faces. Lean is definitely the overwhelming "one" as an influence. Lawrence of Arabia is one of my all-time favorites too and I watched the Bridge on the River Kwai multiple times when I was a kid.
  4. So after first two weeks Part Two will surpass what Dune 1 got during its whole run in four months or so. Not bad, not bad at all.
  5. Just pseudo-intellectualizing here but I wouldn't be surprised if Panda drew here some of those GA people who were on the fence about Dune or saw Part One and weren't sure if they should give another try for Dune. Instead they opted in for a known thing that they knew is all good popcorn fun (as I feel about the Panda and will most likely see it in theaters) and took the safe bet. It probably took millions, maybe $5M? from Dune this weekend but I think most of that is still in play for the weekdays or the next weekend. I.e. from those overlapping potential audience that could watch both, most could still go see Dune too after all the WOM but not just this weekend. As a side note, points to Charlie who has most of the times been on the lower end of projections for Dune 1 and 2 for keeping the "hope" up for potential bigger numbers. Although I'm sure as always with him, he'll let the numbers guide and not jump on any hype or gloom-doom trains.
  6. $12.3M (estimate but probably not far from real number) and under 40% drop. Nice.
  7. Original post shows the exact MTC1 numbers by Keysersoze. Around 36.3% drop from the last true Fri. Not bad at all. ...and was pointed out that MTC1 share is likely bigger this weekend according to Charlie so no piece of mind tonight. Let's see how much it drops from the number above.
  8. Using last weekends MTC1 adjusted comps I get $13.18M for Dune this Friday. ATP was today 17.57 and last Friday 17.07. Let's see what the studio estimates tomorrow say...
  9. After the second international weekend I can dig up my Dune 1 stats on week by week and market by market performance to compare where this is heading internationally. +50%, +60%, +70% OS or something else. It's doing great in any case but the question is how great? $400M, $450M, $500M OS?
  10. Thanks, I appreciate taking time to elaborate on this and great job with Dune Part Two projection when most were jumping on the doom-gloom train. I guess those other trade secret metrics helped too
  11. Yeah, the non raw ticket sales metrics would be interesting to know. I.e. is some of those what you said or are there one or two metrics that raise above others or might the metrics even vary a lit based on genre or other factors. Fascinating stuff in any case.
  12. And I think in this same interview that Ingrid Bergman was an inspiration for close ups and showing people's interactions. I couldn't get that out of my head when rewatched it on Tuesday. That influence you can definitely see.
  13. Any idea what kind of metrics studios use to estimate walkups in advance like what we've seen for Kung Fu Panda?
  14. We shouldn't probably get caught on these few bad reviews but one on rotten tomatoes was hilarious when it was complaining how bad the CGI was.
  15. Yes. I don't usually rewatch movies in theater. I rewatched Dune Part 1 in IMAX during the re-release. The last one before that was Two Towers 20 years ago. I've seen Dune Part Two now twice. Once with my partner and once with friends. I plan to see it by myself at least once more. The second viewing already revealed things that I missed the first time. The layers are easier to see when you rewatch it. Such a treat.
  16. I'm with you on this. Seems like everyone snorted some spice here and turned into fundamentalists. I'd rather downplay it and be surprised if it goes through the roof. The hype here is growing exponentially by the minute and it's hard to keep cool.
  17. Amazing numbers. The more we have spice, the more we want it. I'd be happy anything under 55% drop but looks like we're heading waay below that.
  18. Yeah, wanna echo on this. In a larger context I don't either like how the story is tried to be framed in this way or talking about white saviors (more with Part 1) or such in some parts of ecosphere which in my opinion is diminishing the nuances and depth of what Herbert tried to convey and make it into a one dimensional childish modern day representation. I saw that a bit in how Chani's and Paul's relatio ship was portrayed in the film, even though I tried to remind that they both are still late teenagers with moods...but still.
  19. Yeah, her background looks promising but when you check the experience of writers it's depressing. And I haven't checked how Villeneuve's current participation has been but probably very low since Dehne Part 2 took all his time. Based on what kind of series abominations compared to the source material we've had like the Rings of Power (heard insider makers that the second season is going to go even more south) and Foundation, faith on this is pretty low. Hopefully we're going to be pleasantly surprised but the signs are just not there. E.g. Picard season three was incredible surprise and gift because the showrunner had the chops and love for the IP, he gathered the dream team of craft people that shared the love as well as writing crew. This might have a showrunner that checks the box but writers not and the craft crew I don't know.
  20. Can't wait so see second time in IMAX tomorrow. Back to Arrakis and that stunning experience, a flow of visuals, sound, and light with a rhythm. For me, the first time was the most cinematic experience I've ever had.
