  1. Yes after all that time it was fair to expect something memorable. Instead, we got a film where Spielberg himself didn’t even believed in it because he never liked Lucas’ crystals McGuffin. Still a fun ride anyway.
  2. Okay friend of mine at Cannes texted me the movie is great but there are strong issues here and there with the editing: sometimes dubbing is out of synch and there are giants continuity errors… So he thinks there will be still room for polishing it til October. Here’s some of his thoughts (I translated it): This is perhaps the definitive film about the guilty conscience of the USA. A theme very dear to Martin Scorsese, who, after making the gangster movie mirror an entire nation, also delved into the roots of his homeland, with that Gangs of New York that explored the founding myth of his beloved/hated States. Here, Killers of the Flower Moon is the weary, disenchanted child of this long authorial journey. A film that stops at the border between genres. Halfway between the out-of-time western and the gangster movie where, this time, there is nothing and no one to mythologize. Thus is born a profound investigation of human misery, told through an epic worthy of a great novel. American, of course. And with pages stained with blood and oil.
  3. For what’s worth a friend of mine at Cannes just texted me that is an okay adventure but the mixed response is spot on.
  4. No, that’s what happens at Comic Con etc etc. Maverick last year had a very similar reaction at Cannes.
  5. Since January 2020 only 2 DCEU films out of 5 crossed the $200M mark and no one even crossed $400M. They are bleeding and they need Flash to be a hit. It desperately needs to be a hit for them.
  6. They literally lost 6 years after JL and I’m pretty sure a couple of JL films by Snyder between 2019 and 2022 would’ve been more successful that the crappy stuff they released. Without mentioning that they would’ve avoided all the annoying Twitter campaigns etc etc that lead to ZSJL. And besides, ZSJL has been widely well received and a shorter version of that movie would’ve been 100% superior than the Frankenstein monster that was Whedon’s JL.
  7. This movie has been hyped by its own property and the show biz like anything I’ve ever seen. Yet, the trailer looks kinda mediocre especially from a VFX and cinematic standpoint. WB needs desperately The Flash to become a hit, after five flops in a row. Five. That’s crazy. They should’ve let Snyder finish his story with Darkseid back in 2017.
  8. If it keeps being ahead of V2 - despite Fast competition - by a 8/10% that would lead to a $37/38M weekend.
  9. The complain regarding the CGI is correct. I understand that every chapter they must go bigger but the abuse of CGI is a problem for a movie with a marketing driven solely by “doing stuff for real”.
  10. The forecast is actually $64.5M. Guardians $32.9M.
  11. Pretty much obvious it will easily hit $800M. Looks more eccentric and CGI heavy than the previous ones. It may end up being the 2nd highest film of the year.
