This is the avatar thread, if it doesn't happen here when and where else is it supposed to happen?

NTTD and NWH have almost identical grosses Do they charge a bonus for Bond movies in the uk? I really can't see a Bond movie being more premium format friendly than NWH and I assume that christmas prices are always a bit higher than usual Maybe he meant that at that point of their runs NWH was ahead of Bond, but that it later stabilized due to better Bond drops EDIT: Wait im dumb, kid prices probably account for the difference and that together with Better bond drops later down the line probably explain why there was a big deficit in the 7th week

https://deadline.com/2022/03/batman-spiderman-movie-ticket-price-increase-amc-1234972159/ it's much worse than you thought This is definitely doing 3 billion (if not more) an over 50% increase since q1 2019 for batman tickets in amc, nearly 40% increase in cinemark EDIT: seems like i'm reading the information wrong, but increase the in prices should be over 20% since 2019

Is Untitled 20th Century Studios Film (september 23, 2022) (WIDE) the Avatar re-release? Doesn't seem like the greatest release date to me, same day Puss in boots and only 2 weeks before enter the spider-verse and 3 weeks before Halloween Ends and a Wonder spin-off Specially when Disney was also holding to the excellent august 12 release date, which they ended up giving to an untitled searchlight movie Gonna have to revise my re-release predictions a little bit, but I still feel like as long as they update the visuals a bit, use the Extended Collector's Edition, include some sort of avatar 2 content, market it a bit and also release it in China, I feel like it should have a good shot at getting to 800 million domestic and 3 billion.

this something to do with those pseudo-announcements of Russia going back to the gold standard?

Is the water thingy really enough to talk about blowing minds? Gotta wonder what else they could be hiding much better 3D? What type of tech we talking about?
-
This guy is saying "It’s going to blow people away. You’re not ready for what Jim is doing", while the AMC ceo said "I've seen footage from it, it's mind-blowing" Did they use the same language when they were marketing Avatar 1?
-
Also from that interview Q: For real? A:For real. It’s going to blow people away. You’re not ready for what Jim is doing. Q:Given how long it’s been since the first Avatar film, how will the studio ignite enough audience interest to justify their budgets once the sequels finally hit? A: I can tell you that there is no better marketing apparatus in the business than the one at Disney. They will do an incredible job reigniting that passion for the original film. This is not just a sequel, it’s a saga. And it’s a family saga. It will be compelling on its own, but it will also be extremely compelling to return to those characters and to see how they’ve evolved. It’s less about Avatar being a really big movie and more about how Avatar was a really important cultural moment for audiences. I don’t think it will be hard to convince people to come back.

Give me the numbers Everyone mentions the inflation but never the numbers How much for 3D and its premium format variations?

2022 Box Office Predictions and Discussion
interiorgatordecorator replied to Eric Loves Rey's topic in Box Office Discussion
still don't see L&T's path to a billion Ragnarok only did a bit over 300 domestic, if its getting to a billion it needs to grow 35% both domestic and os-c to get to a billion And it has to do with against Minions 2, lightyear, JWD, Bullet Train, Nope and Black Adam I see it stopping at the mid 900s at most -
Avatar did 300-310 million ow ww, with China expansion it can open at 500 million ww with all other countries staying the same, so 700 million ww would be what id go for Infinity war with China is at around 830 million, 640 without

expanding on your point here's the paraphrased wikipedia section First photo of the film was released on August 14, 2009 SD comic-con 25 minutes of footage screened in 3D August 21 'Avatar Day', teaser trailer, official game trailer and toy line unveiled 2nd trailer premiered in theaters on October 23, 2009, then online extended version of trailer in Imax 3d had overwhelmingly positive reviews THR: audience expectations colored by "the [same] establishment skepticism that preceded Titanic" and suggested the showing reflected the desire for original storytelling. Maybe a teaser with DS2 and then nothing till a 15min sneak peak bundled with a 3D-only re-release in august/september, final trailer in late october

Just humour me for a second Lets just talk about domestic to keep things simple and assume Disney believes this will maximize grosses What if Avatar 2 only released in 3D in exchange for theaters keeping its showtimes/showings static till march and giving it favorable ones till april Would such an arrangement even be possible? Looking at 2023s release schedule, apart from Kraven the Hunter and The Marvels there doesn't seem to be anything before may that would even benefit from 3D, and i'm sure Disney would be willing to sacrifice The Marvels 3D revenue if Avatar 2 went record hunting Onevatar was a much inferior experience in 2D, so why not simply take that option away from 3D-reluctant domestic audiences? Of course making the assumption that 2s 3D is much better than 1s, which was already better than anything there's ever been in the market (I saw Gravity on a pc so I can't comment on that one) I know Dune pulled a similar stunt in China but I have no idea if Dune was ever expected to make more than the 40 million it ultimately got or if Dunes 3d conversion is even good in the first place
-
Its aged terribly in the sense than since 2010 only the chinese (I don't know what species those who bought 3d tvs are) have been able to watch the movie the way it's supposed to be watched I remember someone once mentioning that they wished avatar was released in theaters once a year so that everyone could experience the 3d

Endgame "only" did 175 million, and DC3 did 398 million but that was during CNY, with 2 marketing campaigns and the corona-bonus are 400 million+ opening weekends really possible outside CNY? I myself would be perfectly happy with 300 million
