  1. Will this be this years Bad Times at the El Royale and totally underwhelm at the box office (and IMO, quality wise)?
  2. That big Chinese film is going straight to Netflix. That opening seems good for Alita?
  3. $80m? Um, I should definitely think so considering it’s already at $45m.
  4. Well done on all the hard work @grim22! Hereditary, Love Simon and A Star Is Born placed well, so I’m good. Haven't seen Mission Impossible, or the 2 other sequels before that one.
  5. Simple Favour is the only of those that made my top 25 ha. I missed Searching though, it was only in cinemas here very briefly.
  6. This was much better than Ghost in the Shell, IMO. But did anyone else feel like her would-be boyfriend set her up to enter that tournament knowing they would all try and kill her, yet she never found out about it or got to confront him? Weird choice. I was glad he died.
  7. Agreed about the ending, made it feel like another bloody part 1. Apart from that and the cheesy/silly moments, the head falling into the clouds made me laugh and it was hard to get emotionally attached at all. But great effects and fight choreography.
  8. Just seen Alita in 3D. I thought it was very similar in style to Ready Player One. Alita was likeable and fight scenes and action were great but the drama came off as cheesy/silly. 6/10.
  9. Surely that depends how much of that comes from China where they’re only getting 22% for this? Also it depends how much of it is from the US.
  10. Seems as solid as it could be for Alita. It’s just saddled with ridiculously high costs. This years Ready Player One really, which also probably never saw any money from theatrical (that’s if we use the $170m budget for Alita and not the $237m one Deadline mentioned, yikes). Going to see it this evening in 3D.
  11. Deadlines initial $5.3m 3 day guess for Happy Death Day 2U appears to be wrong thankfully. It could be more like $9m. Still bad though.
  12. Yeh but PG13 horror usually has mostly girls and they’re mostly teens. No one cares about what rating a horror film is anymore. It was a thing in the horror community between 2005-2008 and then everyone got over it. There’s plenty of excellent ones.
  13. I don’t think ratings put audiences off. The target audience for these films are in their teens.
  14. That was totally different. The ending of Ghost in the Shell was the problematic part. Alita has always been a robot. Not an Asian girl trapped inside a Caucasian shell.
  15. Well I suppose staying flat from Thursday wouldn’t be too bad. Still heading for a 3 day under $10m and a total gross under the originals opening weekend though.
  16. Honestly the thread was fine til like page 17. Some users must’ve finished school for the day lol
  17. What kind of % drops would we be expecting on Friday? I think the last time Valentine’s Day was on a Thursday was 2013 and nothing opened on the Wednesday.
  18. I guess people didn’t like the first film as much as Universal thought. It’s not as if there’s big competition in the way. And we all know this weekend can be gigantic audience wise if there are films people want to see (Black Panther, Deadpool, Fifty Shades, Friday the 13th).
