Weekend Numbers | actuals | 30.15M KFP IV | 28.50M DUNE II

I agree that people aren't going to big budget films for stars but I do think the right actor with the right IP is a magic combo -

The Bene Gesserit have the ability to transmute poison. Presumably, all Reverand Mothers on Arakkis drink it and hope they don't die. -

Sure but I don't think Zendaya would appreciate such a crap story. -

I think Denis really has to get across Irulan's story in the next one. Paul is the villain. Not Irulan. I like the hint in this film that they are going to change Irulan into being a co-ruler with Paul. It never made sense she continued to be Princess rather than Empress. -

Chani in the book isn't that interesting though. They've drastically changed her and her relationship to Paul from ride or die concubine to angry, betrayed Freedom Fighter. Chani doesn't challenge Paul that much. Her story in Messiah is passive. -
Dune 2 Opening Weekend Thread [3/01/24 -3/03/24] [82.5m DOM OW]

It will be one. Its kind of funny with the recent comments but Messiah is all about plotting rather than big battles. Its wordy. Sci Fi channel merged Messiah with Children of Dune so that sort of tells you what you miss if you take a knife to it. I think they'll actually add more to it. For Irulan in particular considering how her character is set up here. -
We'll see what its like. It was originally a Disney Plus show they've recut into a film it seems. The Star Wars: The Clone Wars of Disney Animation I guess

Not to mention the solid press they've had for the casting of the Superman film. Completely non-controversial. Actors look like their characters. Could it might just work?

Its Apples's own fault. Who looks at Argylle and goes, yeah that'll make half a billion.

Its a huge win. At the start of December people were thinking this would do Flash numbers

You'd have to think that had it not been a narrative dead end the US total would have been more on a par with the international. But then, why was the Domestic audience so turned off by that when the international audience was not? Considering this was sent to recoup as much cash as it reasonably could for as little outlay as possible its done staggeringly well. And with that in mind I would think there is a whole domestic audience waiting for VOD. This will break even for WB which is a big win considering their situation.

Because a lot of the repeat business was for Mr Tom Blyth. (who I hope has gotten some attention on the back of this) Its strange because the OG Hunger Games has a female protagonist. Something these days that would probably draw ire from Twitter folk. Other than the very first trailer the promo made it clear the main character was a guy. If you can't get the boys in for a story that is mostly about a teenage boy, what can you do?

Its the type of musical it is. Lucy Gray doesn't 'randomly' burst into song for no reason. She sings at understandable times. There is less music in that film than there should be. Snow should have sang Gem of Panem. One of the things of the book is that they are BOTH Songbirds but he can only sing the Capitol's tune on command like the Jabberjays in the cage Gaul has. Wonka passes because its meant to be eccentric. Mean Girls doesn't because we've seen Mean Girls before and it doesn't need 'here are my feelings' songs.

WB is in a turnaround process. They streamline it , cut the losses, get some of their successful IP working and then sell it on for profit.

The Ashton Kutcher- Orlando Bloom- Freddie Prinze Jr etc generation I blame entirely on Hollywood. Didn't know what to do with them. They were fine when they were in Cosmo Girl but once they aged out the Studios had nothing for them. Joshua Jackson is another one that deserves to do better. I was hoping more people would pay attention to him after The Affair.
