  1. Word of mouth from who to who though? Its not a film that is crossing diversity barriers and its not getting young people in. So its hard to see how good word of mouth can help if its stuck in its demo.
  2. The problem with saying the 'Twilight Demo' is that it doesn't exist anymore. It would be like saying the 'Beverly Hills 90210' demo when Twilight came out. Yes, the ages stay the same but what is 'trendy' changes. 13-29 in itself is such a huge hodge podge of people. This film wanted Gen Z obviously and they succeeded in that. They also wanted Millennials up to 40 who liked the old films to come out. There are lots of factors as to why it never made Hunger Games money. Quick to Digital becoming the norm The strike impact That its a prequel. Seriously I looked at the reviews on RT and a lot of the negative ones started with 'I don't like prequels'. People are more skeptical about franchise fare being 'for the money and not the art'. There is no Katniss and Jennifer Lawrence and some folk didn't know what to do with that Rachel Zegler's less than stellar PR The studio not really knowing how to market the film. It's got lots of music but they didn't want it to look like a musical. Its a romance but its a tragic one. Its an action film in the second act. Its a character drama in the third. The mish-mash of all that is one of the things I like about the film but it doesn't make it an easy sell The OG Hunger Games movie is simple. Girl and Boy hero get put in deathmatch they need to survive and win. TBOSAS is more complicated and more interesting
  3. His first scene is in nothing but his underwear. He then walks around shirtless for a good minute and a half. And then undresses in the third act. They knew what they were doing. Its hard to sell a romance where he shoots her at the end. How would you sell Romeo and Juliet in the 21st century? Its a downer I want the 3 hour 40 minute cut of this already
  4. Looking at the mismatch of Domestic/International of Aquaman, was WB wrong not to promote it in the US, or was the US DOA?
  5. Rom Com novels saw a bit of a resurgence on Tik Tok with authors like Ali Hazelwood. Her Reylo fanfiction with the names changed has been picked up but no movement yet. I could see a lot of that stuff coming through
  6. TCP limping to the Oscar bounce...
  7. Marvel's problem is that it has so many things going on at once. Is this a multiverse thing? Is this a Thunderbolts thing? Is this a young avengers thing?
  8. Call me easy to please but I liked Aquaman 2, and Thor: Love and Thunder, and The Flash. They were fun. Yes, I wish they'd done more with Jane Foster before they unceremoniously sent her to Valhalla but I'm not going to judge what I didn't get. What I got was nice.
  9. This film pretty much wrapped the whole thing well. Aquababy lived. Orm was redeemed. Atlantis is safe. Mera exists.
  10. There is a 4 hour cut of it in the wild. Yet to leak but a screener has got loose
  11. 'I woke up when everyone was fighting underwater' You gotta be more specific!
  12. Not your fault. Aquaman takes his bro to the barber half way through and its just not mentioned.
  13. Back from Aquaman. First act is rough. Once Orm turns up its all gold. My only serious complaint, not once does Topo play the drums. Its all narrative. Its what the MCU needs to avoid on its downturn, that the narrative of 'Its a flop-verse' sticks
  14. https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Hunger-Games-The-The-Ballad-of-Songbirds-and-Snakes-(2023)#tab=box-office Bearing in mind they've not reported since Tuesday, its added about 2.2 domestic Tuesday-Wednesday. Its not officially there yet. Could be international reporting delays, not sure.
  15. They said it made 300 pre-emptively. Happy Holidays all
  16. Its a good hold for HG:BOSS considering that they brought it out on digital on Tuesday
  17. The girls just want to see Tom Blyth in nothing but his shorts on that big screen
  18. Its weird because they've made it British but not British. Chalamet isn't doing the accent, even though he can. The little girl is American. Some of the design seems pretty French. It's a 'no-place' which has become common in modern mass market entertainment.
  19. I had a lot of fun with the first one. I really liked Patrick Wilson so I'm glad he appears to be a co-lead
  20. You couldn't do this in 2. You would have to cut after she wins the games and everything after that is miserable unless you add stuff. I'm also not sure about a sequel because what would you do? How he became president? When was that? Would you still use Blyth? Now that he's cracked could he be an appealing protagonist like in this one. He's fine for most of this film until he goes all mad Peeta in the last 10 mins. The Hanging Tree song was huge but not nominated for Best Song. I'm surprised they haven't pushed the songs for this one. There were a lot of forgettable films nominated in the Hunger Games' years. But the academy is genre blind unless its shoved in their faces. Lord of the Rings was a miracle
  21. Understandable considering the end of it. Its a downer and seems very random if you aren't clocking all the dialogue about how his dad died in the war.
  22. Kit Harington seems like the best direction out of that film but I don't know how he ties into the three main plots of the MCU right now, the multiverse, Thunderbolts and Young Avengers. He's on the magic/Marvel UK side and neither have been really developed that strongly yet. (the latter at all, even the British actors are American Superheroes in Marvel)
  23. This is a problem Marvel has now that it needs to turn around. Critics narrative. Before Endgame they saw a critical boost because the narrative was 'Marvel is doing good. People like Marvel' and post Endgame has seen that narrative changed to 'Marvel is repetitive and not Real Cinema, Scorcese said so'. I think they've gone into Hunger Games with the narrative of 'Franchise Nostalgia plays are bad' and as such scored it accordingly.
