Chinese audience prefer tactile, concrete, analog live-action movies. Not only animation requires more suspension of disbelief,
some of the jokes in LB is just too self-aware for them to enjoy.
Universal has 4 movies that earn $50M or more before F8, Mummy & Despicable Me 3.
If Universal releases Jurassic World 2 this year (they have sequels of 2015's 50 Shades & Pitch Perfect this year too),
they just might get close to the insane run of Year 2015
$600M WW for a sequel no. 2 to series that is progressively less popular (costing less than $100M to boot) is just too much.
After Deadpool and now this, I have to reconsider my initial assessment that Fox's milking of Marvel property is dead.
Now can Fox do the impossible and resurrect Fantastic 4
BATB not interesting? Potential $400M grosser before summer season? Sure Hunger Games did it before but it is still a rarity.
Winter/Spring 2017 will be one of the best ever.
GO will beat Split imho
It's a shame that LB will not hit $200M
but JW2 may hit $100M if Lionsgate is
keeping the screens.
2017 has many surprises already and Kong,
BATB/LGBT, F8 will make it even more interesting.
Hope the rest of the summer is more interesting than :
The craftsmanship that goes into the anime, the freshness of the story - I just don't know how the live action can top that one.
But judging from the bits & pieces seen in the trailer, the story seems to take a slightly different direction.
Re: Kong. I would be surprised if this one opened below $40M.
$50M OW is even doable.
I thought JW would be good for $180M (around JPIII numbers) or maybe a low 200 figure like LW.
Chris pratt is an appealing actor and a future Harrison Ford but the story is just OK and I feel that
JPIII has as much good dino action if not better.
Maybe the pent-up T-Rex nostalgia was severely under-estimated?
