  1. Prometheus teaser & trailer looked amazing, incredible, unbelievably awesome, euphoric etc etc and you know the rest. A:Covenant trailer looks kinda OK to very good to me, maybe the movie turns out to be pretty damn good. But really: we should wait for 2nd or final trailer & reserve judgment till then
  2. AC has incredible visuals and nice parkour-style action and I thought this could do $100M or even $150M. Re: Passengers, I was predicting it to be a massive disappointment just by looking at the trailer. It is the same feeling I had when watching the trailer for Inferno.
  3. RO will get to around $1B WW but question is can it dethrone Civil War ??
  4. If that motorcycle flip trick doesn't get people on opening weekend in February, I don't know what will.
  5. There is no proof the Engineers are going to do that. The whole thing is very contrived. The pilots could eject as they steer the ship to hit the Engineer's. If they are some kind of military personnel, it may be easier to swallow. But they are civilians.... Petting an alien snake in a scary cave is less contrived than this.
  6. I don't mind "the dumb scientists" as much as I do "the dumb pilots" who
  7. 8. Personally, I'd say Mad Max Fury Rd is a much more successful movie in terms of its capacity to it re-invent the franchise for modern audience and to stand on its own. Tron Legacy has impressive visuals and a classic score by Daft Punk, and Disney is really pushing this as a cry of protest to the Matrix fans: "We did it first!" but the movie is lacking - I don't know - an organic sense of urgency & energy, characters have no stake. Jeff Bridges should kick ass, Olivia Wilde is pretty & Hedlund is just lucky. Blade Runner 2049 will not be a gigantic hit. Look at Villeneuve's resume: he made sombre, serious movies populated with tortured characters.
  9. I think the TGW may be specially targeted at OS audience with Damon being the hook (as much as for the local audience; is Andy Lau still a big star?) to counter the onslaught of big H'wood movies like Dr Strange, and Rogue One. The popularity of American made movies with spectacle and special fx has been a concern for the erosion of Chinese culture in China. Look at the massive revenue take of T:AoE & Furious 7, the super-legginess of Zootopia. It's mind-boggling to me. Now a Japanese anime about gender confusion is making big money too. Time is changing.
  10. Bottom line, R1 will do about half of TFA all over the world but it will still make a billion for Disney. One thing that is not a sure thing: Would casting China/Hong Kong stars Donnie Yen & Wen Jiang improve on TFA's $124M+
  11. Dude obviously a troll. Edwards is a director of Godzilla
  12. Fast 5 did $416M OS & FF 6 did $550M. Like some said F7 is an outlier. I won't be surprised F8 "only" did $600M - $700M OS. Still humongous for a franchise that is basically a big-budget Jason Statham vehicle like, that's right, The Transporter. Ever wonder why they actually cast Statham in them?
  13. This is bad news for China's effort to compete with Hollywood blockbusters. The timing of GW release and the barrage of publicity (at least in Asia) unleashed before Rogue One is clearly aimed to win local audience back from Disney & Marvel movies. They should stop making/re-making Ip Man/Bruce Lee flicks & Monkey God/Journey to West movies and re-think their strategy. Develop smaller, indie filmmakers.
  14. What is bigger than tanks? A submarine! Locked for a $1B WW? Maybe
