  1. All Time Films Showdown (I've excluded Titanic due to it's longevity) Star Wars is finally starting to come down to earth. Avatar's 3rd weekend record remains intact after this weekend (going into it was expected to fall). What this means for TFA is now a question of whether or not it can reach the 100m milestone and become only the 2nd film in Australia history to cross the barrier. To be honest TFA already has the honour of only the 2nd film to pass 60m in a single run. (Titanic's overall gross (all releases) is about 63m). I guess you can say the chase is on. So here are some comparison of legs and where TFA might end: 1. Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 2 ~ similar legs would see TFA reach 83m. This would be a terrible run and also DH2 did not school holidays supporting the film from this point on... this total is expected to be easily passed at this point. 2. Jurassic World ~ similar legs would see TFA reach 97m. are much more realistic goal as the holiday support JW saw didn't happen till Weeks 3 and 4. However after that it drop off quickly and TFA possibly has an additional week beyond that before the holidays end. (Australia Day Weekend) 3. Return of the King ~ (I've included this because of the similar timing) Similar legs see TFA reach 104m which i guess is what we are hoping for as a minimum here. But ROTK did benifet from Oscars buzz and a win. TFA may be able to replicate that though, but the jury is still out whether TFA will get any nods in the major awards or not. 4. Avatar ~ including simply because it's fun. Avatar legs from here on out puts this up at 167m. This has come down from over 200m when TFA opened but still looks an impressive number. It's also likely a very unlikely number at this point as TFA's legs are already showing to be slightly shorter than Avatar. (I won't even attempt to compare to Titanic as the final total would be embarrassing. ) Week # Avatar Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Jurassic World Star Wars: The Force Awakens Released 17/12/2009 13/07/2011 11/06/2015 17/12/2015 (Weekend = First Line) Week 0 $931,125 $931,125 $7,029,487 $7,029,487 Week 1 (OW) $11,962,308 $12,895,497 $18,368,621 $25,460,975 $16,063,693 $16,063,693 $27,254,820 $27,254,820 $7,349,693 $20,245,190 $5,032,927 $30,493,902 $4,305,083 $20,368,776 $11,286,747 $38,541,567 W/E Screens/Ave 588 20,344 754 24,362 605 26,552 941 28,964 Opening Day 7,029,487 2,735,000 9,425,000 Single Day 7,029,487 (Wednesday) 5,400,000 (Saturday) 9,425,000 (Thursday) Week 2 $8,749,099 $28,994,289 $7,994,127 $38,488,029 $9,870,007 $30,238,783 $11,800,884 $50,342,451 $9,772,863 $38,767,152 $2,181,834 $40,669,863 $2,716,344 $32,955,127 $10,604,824 $60,947,275 W/E % Drop -26.9% -56.5% -38.6% -56.7% Week 3 $9,659,700 $48,426,852 $3,821,864 $44,491,727 $5,138,426 $38,093,553 $9,001,962 $69,949,237 $6,475,778 $54,902,630 $1,087,827 $45,579,554 $2,687,516 $40,781,069 Week 4 $8,338,365 $63,240,995 $2,263,723 $47,843,277 $3,599,657 $44,380,726 $5,032,850 $68,273,845 $551,975 $48,395,252 $2,052,562 $46,433,288 Week 5 $7,002,454 $75,276,299 $1,290,573 $49,685,825 $2,742,799 $49,176,087 Week 6 $5,604,268 $84,804,886 $756,945 $50,871,843 $1,087,749 $51,072,113 Week 7 $4,548,004 $92,706,581 $444,594 $51,496,017 $588,156 $51,962,096 Week 8 $3,936,622 $98,374,262 $278,941 $51,887,115 $297,809 $52,440,054 Week 9 $2,850,321 $102,615,052 $176,046 $52,143,114 $107,902 $52,601,800 Week 10 $1,874,114 $105,454,142 $92,347 $52,399,104 $52,303 $52,687,047 Week 11 $1,709,239 $107,859,934 $74,512 $52,419,937 $33,750 $52,736,860 Week 12 $1,003,500 $109,539,127 $23,909 $52,767,785 Week 13 $780,998 $110,866,504 $22,892 $52,795,399 Week 14 $561,868 $111,653,739 $8,907 $52,808,171 Week 15 $323,301 $112,170,651 $1,283 $52,809,776 TOTAL: $115,600,481 $52,611,276 $52,814,845 $69,949,237
  2. Top 20 : 31st December 2015 - 3rd January 2016 Star Wars obviously easily stayed on top (Will discuss that in the next post). Daddy's Home is performing well and should finish well above 15m with a stretch target of 20m. The Good Dinosaur is not far behind at this point and should play well over the holidays. Point Break opened surprisingly stronger than i expected given all the bad publicity. Nearly 2m opening isn't a bad start and should mean a total north of 5m here (I think 10m would be stretching the friendship as it may fall steeply in the coming weeks). Joy continued is reasonable to good run above 5m. I must say that the Road Chip's hold was disappointing given it's a family film (see Daddy's Home and it's increase this weekend.) Still it's banked above 5m already and on track for a 10m+ finish at this point. The biggest dissappointment I must say of the weekend wasn't Point Break which is what i was expecting. The Peanuts Movie just seemlingly didn't click as well as expected (I expected an opening near or just above 2m - ie. PB and TPM swapped essentially). 3. 100m isn't dead yet. I still think the range for this is 90m to 110m. I am beginning to think Avatar will be out of reach now though. Of course I could be wrong and Star Wars goes mini avatanic on us from here... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The 5th Wave ~ 40m The Boy (2016) ~ 10m (it could end up under 5m but still unknown at this point as no further information is available) Fifty Shades of Black ~ i've reduced to 5m (yes i'm using the budget on the numbers but i've found their budgets in the preview to be pretty close previously) Next 2 posts will summarise the update. only 6 more days untl we get our first releases... (ok then well about 9 or 10 days until we get actuals in and those who invested in those films due for release on the 8th Jan start earning money..)
  11. Star Wars q16 : id say that UK + AUS has a strong chance of being > the domestic OW. Dom OW = 248m AUS total up to 44m USD (should be around 55m by Sunday. ) UK I believe is over 123m. So as it stands AU + UK = 167m with plenty to go. Final UK should easily exceed 150m and approach 200m before the game ends. AUS should reach above 80m USD at this point. Very much in the ballpark. 20. Here is my updated comparison chart... I'm using estimates for this weekly #'s (Mon-Wed)...... There is no real apples for apples comparison here... Avatar still remains the closest thanks to the dates, but i just don't know where it's heading right now. I mean the 2nd weekend drop was worse than Potter but then the weekdays are more than triple making that comparison nearly useless now. I currently see (looking at the comparisons) a 3rd weekend between 10m and 14m. (yeah i know, a big range, but i just don't know at the moment.) if you look at Avatar you would think a 3rd weekend of about 10.5m seems about right. 21. So did we get 3m yesterday ? Or not? Will be interesting how the coming weekend pans out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks mate. So $143m for Avatar is the USD all time record in Australia? I thought it was $105m. Just going by the data in the charts on the first page of this thread. Or are we talking about $143m as Avatar adjusted USD gross? 105m USD equates to 143m AUD. we've nearly hit 60m AUD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
