But what else are we supposed to do when discussing all time box office? Unadjusted numbers are often a horrible indication of success on the all time scale.
I think Passion and Matrix Reloaded should be called events as well given their R rating. Admittedly that was unfair for me to ignore that important factor.
Thank you, this was a much more convincing argument to me for why it was a box office event than "because it was #1 of '91 and had a pop culture impact!"
So maybe when we're dealing with R rated films, the same rules don't totally apply.
You know Tele, I'd like to personally thank you for this. It just now dawned on me that the metric you're using to describe an event (overall pop culture impact) is one that R1 has absolutely zero percent chance of ever reaching no matter what it grosses. Thank you for winning my R1 not an event argument for me, as always you are eternally wise.
You know half of this forum is just itching to argue Avatar wasn't an event because they don't like it, but stop just short of doing it because they realize what complete fools it would make them.
Ikr? Pretty funny Incredibles sold more tickets than Frozen but no one wants to argue about that film being an event.
Little secret: only the successful films the forum collectively loves can be events.
LMFAO, this has been my same argument from the beginning, the definition has never narrowed. Other people are trying to expand the definition because they want a reason to argue against something they know is true.
What is? Seriously, what the hell are you talking about? I'm talking about films that were box office events, and never have I been talking about any other type of event. Sorry if people thought that I was saying box office and pop culture events had to go hand in hand.
So then where are all those extra admissions? It can leave a huge mark on the people who saw it all it wants, but at the end of the day not enough people actually did see it for it to be a box office event. It paled in comparison to the box office events of the decades prior to the start of the 90's.
