It takes itself just as seriously as something like TDK, yet lacks the narrative heft and memorable characters and moments of a film like that. As such it is hard to watch more than once.
There ya go.
I only saw Elektra the one time, but I honestly just remember it being utterly forgettable and unnecessary more than I remember it being awful. Catwoman and both Ghost Rider's I thought were awful for example.
Fox is going to have to market Apocalypse as being
"From the studio that ABSOLUTELY DID NOT bring you Fant4stic...no really, you're mistaken. Wasn't us."
I meant that as a list of the CBM bomb of their decade, not the only bombs. I think it's safe to say no other CBM will challenge Fant4stic's overall utter failure the rest of this decade.
The CBM debacles of the decades:
80's: Superman IV
90's: Batman and Robin
00's: Catwoman
10's: Fant4stic
Hey at least the title won't belong to a DC one this decade, which given Green Lantern's existence is pretty amazing.
Actually it looks like Catwoman could be the perfect comparison to Fant4stic in terms of budget, gross, and reception.
Now if it kills Teller's promising career chances like Catwoman did for Berry, they'll really be parallels.
Which brings me to the other point. Just how big are NWA these days? I mean I'm sure the youth from the early 90's will be interested, but how about the younger demo? I feel like today's teens have practically forgotten the 90's guys. They weren't even that big anymore when I was a teen. Everyone was too busy listening to Eminem and Fiddy and (*vomits*) Nelly to care much.
Is that a huge part of SOC though? I thought it's more concerned with being a biopic of the NWA's rise to stardom than a social commentary. Which by the way, sure did Selma no favors this year.
It's got a better chance than The Martian. The marketing has been a major effort in the vein of a tent-pole film and has done a good job aiming to several demos. It's advertised as a straight forward true event survival story of the most publicly infatuated mountain in the world. And they're marketing t as something you should see in theaters for the scope. Also we will be pretty deprived of any big new releases by then. It should be time for one. It still needs to have great WOM though to get to 200, never going to get there just off of OW.
I guess. Although Notorious in '09 should have had a lot of the same going for it and finished sub 40m. Granted, SOC seems to be getting much better reviews, hence why i think it can do 60+. 100+ I'll have to see happen.
Hey, maybe I just cracked the code for Azkaban's severe drop off from the first two! No Voldy felt like no advancement of the franchise's central conflict to the GA.
