I'm a little confused by this statement. Do you mean they won't mix with the current X-Men generation (McAvoy & co.) in our near future or the original generation (Stewart & co.) whose films were set in the "near future" of the X-Men universe? I don't think they'll meet the original generation but chances for the current generation are still there. Isn't Dark Phoenix set in the 90's? If we are supposed to believe McAvoy's group barely aged for 30 years since the 60's, what's another 25 years until present day? That's another thing. Deadpool 2 is going to introduce the time-travelling Cable, so maybe the different time settings of the films won't prevent the characters from crossing over.

Josh Boone cited A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors as one of the major inspirations for this film and that film already did "horror with superheroes". There was also one of the Friday the 13th films that had a telekinesis powered girl like Jean Grey/Carrie White who took on Jason (I don't remember which one it was, the 8th one?). So technically the concept has been done before. But I think/hope the novelty will be exploring the mutant allegory for traumatic aspects of puberty through a horror movie lens. It, Scream and similar films have kind of done that too (except for the mutant/superpowers part) but the characters here are pretty unique and so far, Boone is making all the right noises regarding doing the personalities justice. Btw this was the interview where he spoke about the influences for the film, the setting being a 150 year-old mental hospital where crew members experienced weird happenings, and how he adopted practical effects over VFX wherever possible:

Bella Heathcote, who plays Olive Byrne, admitted herself in an interview that the Olive Byrne she did research on seemed nothing like the character in the movie. Alien: Covenant EXISTS lol. Don't see Annabelle passing 100M in May. Not sure about 80M either. It happened because August was so desolate. With GotG2 and the decently reviewed other A: C in May, not as many people may have been as willing to forgive Creation for its predecessor. I'm sure WB's also happy with It nuking September records.

Chris Claremont, the man who would go on to redefine the X-Men from the late 70's to the early 90's with his work on the franchise, was definitely a fan of what popular horror creators were doing during the different years of his influential run. In the late 70's/early 80's, he drew inspiration from Stephen King for the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga. During the 80's, he utilized themes from King, Wes Craven and John Carpenter (among others) for The New Mutants in particular. Plenty of horror motifs appear in his other X-Men work from time to time, possession being the most prominent one. I actually find The New Mutants to be consistently better than most of his main X-Men work because the YA aspects of the title complimented his horror leanings perfectly, and as you said, the puberty/mutant allegory worked better than other mutant themes (though I do enjoy explorations of the allegory's other interpretations as well).

I wonder if it will pass SMH. There's a possibility of a Halloween bump leading to great drops over the next 2-3 weeks. It depends on which part of summer it came out in. The film taking place over the course of summer with the third act set at the "end of summer" complimented the early September release. I think August could have been ideal, especially considering how bare the release schedule was this August. But WB had a sound strategy putting A:C, one of many in a long planned franchise/universe, in August while testing September with the first of just a two-parter (though I guess we shouldn't underestimate studio heads getting greedy and greenlighting It Ch. 3: Pennywise Heads to the Big Apple).

Totally see Fox lifting the embargo weeks before release like they did for the last few X-films. So far that strategy has worked really well for DOFP, Deadpool and Logan, with Apocalypse being the only backfire.

TBF Fant4stic tone was a really weird fit for well, the Fantastic Four. I understand that they wanted to differentiate it from the previous iteration but eh, not a good choice. They should have just made Reed/Sue older with kids instead of going younger and have pushed The Incredibles aspect of the franchise even more. OTOH this tone is pretty much perfect for The New Mutants. It's a franchise that just lends itself naturally to YA/horror tropes. Btw @Arlborn the Fault in Our Stars/(500 Days) of Summer writers worked on this, so I think we'll get interesting relationship dynamics and coming of age arcs in addition to the scares (after all, the Fox CEO did mention The Breakfast Club as one of the influences).

Naah, Futurist equally trolls all fandoms because he wants the mythic "superhero fatigue" to take hold and end the superhero blockbuster era. Smaller budget superhero flicks makes it harder for them to bomb and lose money, hence making the chances of his fantasy even tinier.

This isn't even the first trailer. Just a teaser to establish the mood/tone of the film. That's all teasers are supposed to do. The first trailer will obviously show the powers of the kids. *Unless there's an in story reason for the children not being able to use their powers for the first couple of acts.

No. New Mutants was always a Stephen King inspired title that depicted the trauma of teenhood/childhood with horror tropes. It's basically Loser's Club with mutants. Dark Phoenix incidentally was also heavily inspired by King's Carrie.

I knew it would be between ABitW, Teenage Wasteland (Baba O'Reilly) and Season of the Witch. These on the nose song choices are getting easy to predict and they seem to work every time Looks under 50M tbh
