Weekend Estimates - (BO.com forums <3 RTH)

I love Iron Man 3 so much. Flaws and all.

I quite enjoy IM3, but it isn't quite up to the level of IM1 or Avengers.

That said, there's a lot of really cool stuff in it.

Including that super awesome endcredits sequence.

Didn't all the other big OW's have Thursday midnight shows too?

IM3 beat #3 by a big enough margin that its safe to assume that if it was limited to strictly midnight showings, it still would have pulled in enough to take second place. It's not like it made $30 million from 7pm shows or anything like that.

Well, Thursday midnight shows are technically on Friday. :P

And didn't it only beat Harry Potter's OW by like 5 million? Iron Man 3 made over 15 million from Thursday evening shows which started at 9 (although I know my theater, for example, didn't even follow that rule and actually started shows at 8). They were able to get a whole lot of shows in at various times before midnight. I don't think it's fair that studios are folding in what's basically an extra half day into the Friday estimates.

Hey, Steve Rogers is flawed. That's why I love him.

Well the 15m was from Thursday evening and midnights.  Do they ever provide a breakdown?

Yeah, IM1 is still better for me. I just adore that movie so much   And I doubt any solo movies will touch TA level for me either.

I agree with you about the end credit sequence, nice mash up of all three movies.

Question: Everyone says about IM3, how it was better than IM2, but not better than IM1 or TA.. Is there ever a 3rd sequel that's better than the original movie folks??? IM3 was never supposed to be better than IM1 much less TA and why some people thought it would?? I don't know..

THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, TOY STORY lll and maybe TLOTR: TROTK.

Steve Rogers is even less flawed than Superman, regardless the fact that he will kill if he needs to.

Steve Rogers is flawed to me, but different opinions I guess. Steve is hella stubborn, doesn't listen to anyone when he thinks that he's right. That's a seriously big flaw to me.

No, it doesn't seem terribly fair. But it's pretty safe to assume that a lot of those people would've shown up for midnight shows if that was all that was available. And for the people that wouldn't have stayed up for midnight, they'd have gotten tickets for Friday night or Saturday night instead. So the OW would still be good enough for #2.

There might be a small set of people that could only go on Thursday night for some reason (work, vacation, etc), but certainly not enough to close that $5 Million gap.

On what reason? This is the first time I've heard you say this. You hadn't said this before IRON MAN lll opened.

I liked TDKR more than BB.

I love IM1 too. But I have to say IM3 is so different in tone so it's hard for me to compare the two. IM3 had some ridiculous leaps in logic but the snappy pace and witty dialogue kept me engaged throughout.  IM1 final act was a letdown after the spectacular first two acts. And the beginning scenes with Tony in the cave with his 1 helper was so beautiful and moving I don't think anything can top that for me.

What I'm saying is that he's very much like Batman in that aspect, even his "flaws" are idealistic, he is stubborn but he is right 99,99% of the time, he is a bigger boy scout than Superman IMHO.

I feel IM3 is the best Iron Man film and THE best Marvel film yet, even though TA will always have my heart because it was my childhood dreams becoming true, while I feel that TDKR is barely less of a disappointment than SM3, but I do love BB though. To each his own, I guess.

That's what makes IM3 so entertaining. It's so very much unlike all the other big superhero movies out there. And the endcredits just pound that home for me. It's like a big fat "you just saw a very different superhero movie" right in your face.

I think RDJ's performance as Tony Stark in IM3 is the strongest one. I agree that the tone is different. Some plot points are stupid and too convenient. But like many Shane Black movies, the dialogues and the humors work for me.

IM1 is still the best to me cause it's too special I guess, seeing your favorite character brought onscreen for the first time. It's mostly sentimental  :P
