4815162342
Simple Topic, of all the main themes for Star Trek floating around out there, which is the best? I'll be posting examples of all the ones that come quickly to mind Star Trek: The Original Series (By Alexander Courage) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zalQv1bpdw Star Trek: The Motion Picture/Star Trek: The Next Generation/etc (By Jerry Goldsmith)

4815162342
My personal choice is Goldsmith's theme for The Motion Picture, though I like how other films do incorporate a reference to Courage's theme as a nod to what started it all.
Phil in the Blank
For something a little bit different I always enjoyed The Undiscovered Country http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-Zb-fHaH8A&list=PL5988DE30A9D8F521

Accursed Arachnid!™
For something a little bit different I always enjoyed The Undiscovered Country http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-Zb-fHaH8A&list=PL5988DE30A9D8F521 That's my favorite theme as well. Although I love Horner's overall work best, Eidelman's theme is just so scrumptiously dark. It's too bad he didn't get more work. He and Joel McNeely(Terminal Velocity and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire) immediately spring to mind when it comes to criminally underused composers from the 90's. I've just always considered the song that plays over the opening titles is the 'main theme' To be honest I missed your post when I posted mine

Yeah, neither did The Search for Spock(We used to call it "In Search of Spock" when I was a kid, a nod to Nimoy's spooky docu-series). They used Spock's theme for that. Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted June 11, 2013 Founder / Operator Share Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) My top 5 in no particular order: - Voyager theme - DS9 theme (seasons 4-7 version) - TMP/TNG theme - Abrams-verse theme - First Contact theme Runner-up: Generations has a very underrated soundtrack, IMO. The overture is glorious. Edited June 11, 2013 by ShawnMR
Accursed Arachnid!™
Runner-up: Generations has a very underrated soundtrack, IMO. The overture is glorious. Yeah, I've always liked Generations' score. In fact, there isn't one ST film soundtrack that is "bad". Even Goldsmith's Star Trek V score is a good listen. Here is how I rank the film scores(in their entirety): 1. Wrath of Khan(Horner) 2. The Motion Picture(Goldsmith) 3. First Contact(Goldsmith) 4. Undiscovered Country(Eidelman) 5. Star Trek '09(Giacchino) 6. Search for Spock(Horner) 7. Star Trek into Darkness(Giacchino) 8. Generations(McCarthy) 9. Nemesis(Goldsmith) 10. Final Frontier(Goldsmith) 11. Insurrection(Goldsmith) 12. Voyage Home(Rosenman) I liken Star Trek to Bond when it comes to scores, they are usually excellent.
