I am far from an expert on early films. I can't tell you why certian shots that Eisenstein does here make them as brilliant as they are. Yes, this is early film and it is quite interesting. But for me to comment on the " struggle " and such is pure nonsense. But what I can comment on is that I really admired how " The Odessa Steps" sequence was very well done. For the techniques that were employed in 1925, they really made this sequence one to remember. As for the rest of the film, to be honest I find it interesting but that's as far as it goes. I am too much a product of the 80's to truly appreciate it. But I will acknowledge that it has some ground breaking shots and that makes it worth a look.

i'm not a fan of silent movies that rely on too many intertitles so that was getting annoying, but there are two absolutely phenomenal scenes in here - the steps, of course, and the final crescendo which finishes with one of the most awesome trick endings ever. so for those two scenes alone, this movie is close to great.
