Ideal movie length

Recommended Posts

no. two of my favourites, barry lyndon and dogville, are well over 150 minutes. and sitting on my to-watch list is seven samurai, inland empire and andrei rublev, and given their reputation i don't expect being bloated to be among their problems.

and i suppose there's lord of the rings, too.

Seven Samurai is good. I said generally. There are exceptions, but in my mind, 150 is the golden number

Honestly - 1:30-2:00. If I'm picking a movie to watch at home (Netflix, whatever) and I see something longer than 120 minutes it's a deterrent.

Of course there are exceptions - Titanic, Cloud Atlas, etc. But if I'm going into a movie blind then there's no way I pick the 150 minute movie over the 90 minute.

Depends on what kind of movie it is. I've watched movies that were very entertaining and for me, they could've been 5 hours long, but I also watched movies boring as fuck that went on and on for... nothing.

Comedies are just fine between 1.5-2 hours. Action flicks, depends what kind of action: Stalloneish type of action around 1.5 hours, but blockbuster action like Pacific Rim and Transformers, can go for like two hours or more.

A movie like Lincoln should max out at 1 hour, though.
