Israel box office thread: 2022 admission numbers

I wasn't going to make this thread because local distributors like to guard their numbers as if it were a state secret, but I feel like I'm spamming the individual film threads with long posts about the Israeli box office, so this is the place for all of that.

 

The numbers that are available are from BOM, which has the numbers for the big studios only. There is also a local blog from a guy that knows people on the theatre side and gives ticket sales estimates for films when he can.

 

Total numbers for the market are better, and are available from the Central Bureau Of Statistics. edit: added 2022 numbers.

Wait a minute....Israel has a good population growth and an excellent GDP growth..And yet the number of screens and theaters is decreasing?

So why did the number of theaters go down?

 

Since the 80's, when malls were built in Israel, theatres were built inside them. These theatres would pay less than regular stores because mall owners thought of theatres as a way of getting people to come to the mall, with the idea that once they come they will buy stuff from high paying regular shops. In the last few years malls have realized that theatres are no longer a draw for bringing new customers, so they kicked the theatres out. these 7-8 screen mall theatres have been replaced by huge megaplexes with 20+ screens. These new megaplexes have proven to be popular really popular with the public and increased attendance, the first of these megaplexes was at one point making 20% of the entire country's box office in its 30 screens. There are currently more of these megaplexes under construction so I expect the box office to be fine even if the theatre numbers won't show it

See my post above, but looking into the future this should go up again. There aren't many mall theatres left to close but there are many new theatres under construction.

Because there has been a huge turnover, almost none of the theatres that existed 10 years ago are still around today, you just don't see it on the list because new ones have taken their place, but it does cause the numbers to go back and forth every year.

Not even close, as you can see from my list, no superhero film has ever won a year and IM3 is no exception. FF6 has already made over twice as much as IM3, and the battle for number 1 should be between it and The Smurfs 2.

 

Besides FF6, The Croods, Argo and Django already passed IM3. DM2 and MU are locked to pass it and GU2 might. IM3 isn't going  to make make the top 10, although this is expected since The Avengers was only number 12 last year.

The all time list is mostly made up from Israeli movies from the 60s and 70s. Titanic and Avatar are probably the only foriegn films in the top 10.
