  1. Well technically but they also weren't about the roman empire. A movie about something as controversial as the crusades is bound to make less money no matter how good it is than a film about Julius Caeser who is a quintessential part of pop culture. Also I forgot to mention Troy which was fairly successful and also a serious movie. Alexander and Kingdom of Heaven suffered too much from poor casting, bad directing and controversy that turned people away. A straight epic adventure action movie about the roman empire could easily make good money if it was correctly marketed and well made.
  2. After the success of Gladiator the sword and sandals genre came back with a bang but left with a whimper. Kingdom of Heaven and Alexander were both failures and while the 300 movies were succesful they were far less grounded in reality to be considered historical or even historical fiction. Since Gladiator the only movie we have gotten about the Roman empire was The Eagle, but that was too low key to really break out. Aside from what Gladiator did(which invented a character who take place in a fairly historically accurate background) there is so many other movies about Rome that could be made. The second punic war could make for an epic film where Scipio Africanus defeated the great Carthagnian general Hannibal Barca. A biographical movie about Julius Caeser would be awesome if done right and I'm honestly surprised they havent made one yet. You could even do a film about some of the more famous roman emperors like Augustus or Trajan. Even a film about the late Roman empire with Attila the Hun as an enemy would be pretty good. Thoughts?
  3. I dont see how any other action movie will surpass this for years. Having seen both the first and the third mad max movies and being somewhat dissapointed in both i wasnt sure what to expect with this. But this blew every other action movie out of the water. The sandstorm sequence especially stands out. I was particularly surprised by the amount of narrative heft the film possessed and i did not expect to see the Nicholas Hoult character evolve into such a central sidekick. Tom hardy was strong in this although like others have said he does sound a lot like Bane. This is the type of movie i want to see in theaters more than once and i will be going again on monday. A
  4. Dialogue was stilted at points and it engages itself in a few to many cliches for my liking. But for what its worth it was an enjoyable movie with likeable performances from Giamatti and the Rock. Plus Daddario has a nice pair of eyes
  5. This has an excellent chance of happening so in.
  6. This is going to suck, blow, lick and everything in between all at the same time and i mean that in the worst way possible
  7. It suffers from an uneveness but when it works it knocks it out of the park. The mountain and the abu dhabi action scenes are some of the best in the series but also of movies in general in the last decade. We get a lot more of the enjoyable same old same old with Kurt Russell to spice things up. The villains seem wasted though, and having 2 was definitely an unecassary complication and a waste of Stathams skills. I must say that Wan seems to be able to handle emotional/dramatic scenes better than Lin though and the Paul walker tribute was truly great. Overall I'd put it below Fast 5 and 6, definitely worth watching but I doubt I'll buy it on dvd and after this I no longer have interest in the series due to Paul Walkers passing. B+
  8. Worst movie of 2014, and it will probably go down as my most hated movie ever. I could tell 5 minutes in that this movie was going to be terrible just from all the random stock nature footage. But I had no idea it was going to be so deplorable. Literally the only thing in this movie worth taking a look at is Scarlett Johansson in her bra. We are subjected to random animal mating footage, disasters and a whole host of other maladies. Somehow a pill can make one defy gravity, give you knowledge you in no way possess and allow you to travel through time. Not to mention our heroin doesn't mind killing people(and maybe she enjoys it). Then we have to sit through another morgan freeman phone in performance, all while watching Lucy who is for all other intents and purposes invincible kill people with her mind. Wow wheres the tension in that? Finally this film seems to be really rascist against asians for no particular reason. This is the dumbest most idiotic film about a smart person ever. If you have kids or a family please don't let them watch this, they will thank you one day. F- 0/10
  9. Brian mills may be innocent of killing his wife but lets look at some pf his other crimes 2 counts of resisting arrest 4 counts of assaulting a police officer 2 counts of Grand theft auto 3 counts of destruction of property(college, liquor store, and the apartment) Impersonating a police officer 10 counts of murder Physically threatening someone with a weapon 3 counts of Breaking and entering 1 count of physical torture 1 count of assaulting an unarmed civilian 1 count of hacking the police network Way to go Brian Mills
  10. Lucy was by far the worst movie i saw last year, after the first 15 minutes i could just tell how bad it was going to be
  11. If this film outgrosses Titanics original run i will pay for your account for three months baumer
  12. I was wondering the same thing. I like Liam Neeson but this has gotten old real fast and he barely even seems to be trying. Story is pointless, and even the action scenes arent any good. D+
  13. My sister loves this show and would marry Hodgner if she had the chance
  14. In retrospect of this weeks box office how about taken? It made 145m off a 24m OW in January on 25m dollar budget.
  15. Beat me to it, its a success that has no one has ever been able to come close to replicating
  16. Surprised this isnt coming out this year but I see it doing improved numbers based on the second ones reception 40/97/60/157
  17. Also i really hated the dol guldur showdown between saruman, elrond galadriel and the ringwraiths to be by far the worst scene in the movie, it added nothing to the story, only existed to show off pointless cgi and it completely ruined the character galdriel for me. Without that scene i might have given it a C+.
  18. Definitely dissapointing for me, judging by the trailers i thought it was going to be the best but it was easily the worst. At least the first tao were marginally decent. First off it has the feeling of being dead air, theres so little going on that they stretch out useless parts of the movie, while ignoring important plot points and worthwhile character development. Secondly this is pure cgi overkill, and some of it looks really bad. Thirdly the battles are just not enough to keep the film interesting. It never approached the epicness of helms deep or minas tirith despite trying very hard to do so. Finally the ending with bilbo is wrapped up nicely but every ody else gets the shaft, i wanted to know what happened to bard, the dwarves and the elves but none of that gets explained. There are some good performances most notably from martin freeman, ian mckellen and luke evans but they are too little to make a difference. Overall its a movie we really could have done without. C- My rankings of the films FOTR ROTK TTT DOS AUJ BOTFA
