Out of all the films to win the Academy award for best picture... this is probably in the top 3. Nowadays of course this is typical romcom formula, but not a single current romcom has the wit of this movie's screenplay, nor does any current male lead ooze charm like Clark Gable did, or share an incredible chemistry akin to the one that he and Colbert share.<3 <3 <3 A+++++++++

well-acted and fairly entertaining, and i do admit i got swept up in the drama near the end, but it wasn't nearly as incisive, creative or funny as the screwball standard, 'his girl friday'.

It Happened One Night is a fairly enjoyable older movie. The runtime is far too long for its plot and there are a number of scenes that could easily be excised. The romance also seems to be nonexistent until the plot requires it to be the main focus. The ending is pretty disappointing too. However, Colbert and Gable have great chemistry, the latter of which is really charming in his role. Connolly and Karns steal the show, and it's honestly rather enjoyable throughout. It Happened One Night is an alright early romantic comedy thanks to a stellar cast, despite some pacing hiccups. B-

Rewatching this with some people who hadn't seen it made it a bit better. I laughed more and stuff. The scene where they're singing the trapeze song is the best one in the movie btw.
