From what I remember we've had the holiday since at least 1800's up until QE II the birthday holiday was on the day of the Monarch birthday, QE II father George V birthday was early Jun around 3-6 something like that, when QE II took over it was decided to keep the date consistant so on a monday close to what was George V's birthday, guess they decided on 2nd Monday in June.QE II actual birthday is sometime in April.there you go we could have Easter/ Anzac Day & QE II birthday holidays all at the same time Mar/Apr

But why change it?

I never said anything about changing it.I simply said that it doesn't make sense to have a holiday for something that's not even happening. You mentioned changing it to which I simply pointed out that I wouldn't hurt to change it.However, since RTH has informed us that it's been in since the 1800s and simply isn't "Queens" birthday long weekend, changing would in fact be pointless.

Actually, if you must know, 1 of the states IS changing the Queens Birthday. This year we having a special "Jubilee" celebration this year and a day off in june in line with others...BUT queensland is moving the holiday to the first weekend in october (long weekend) - this year we get both but from next it will only be in october... so it's no laughing matter about it changing... Queensland is indeed changing this ;)

Rth,How did the Wednesday advance screenings of Prometheus perform? I attended a sold out screening at the Sydney IMAX. I liked it and though it was good but I still have a number of issues with it. I must say it looked fantastic on the big IMAX screen.
