Nice. Wonder why it was left out. ??You would think a total between 35.5 and 36 is where it's heading now. Gives frozen a chance at passing dm2 here.

bad about 1.5m

this coming weekend is "battle of the turkeys" with Cuban fury, Pompeii,I Frankenstein, Ride Along (considered to be classed Turkey as AA films don't usually work in this market but there's always the chance of suprise and it was only the strong US result that is seeing it get a release at all originally it wasn't going to be released)

Rth, roughly how much does it cost for a distributor to send a digital copy of a film to a theatre?

Distributors have to pay as if they were distibuting 35mm, so while the cost of the Hard drive (which are recycled with new product when they are returned to depot)  and transfer is low they have to pay theatre screening film whats called a VPF (virtual print fee) this is because the investment of forcing  theatres to switch from convention 35mm projectors to digital is very expensive(cost has come down but to give you an idea intially a theatre buying one digital projector was about the same cost as buying 35mm projectors for all screens in a complexes, also the cost of 3D is extra. You need a silver screen and an add on to the projector, so adding 3D to a screen costs additional '000 of dollars hence usual extra charge to see 3D) and to help offset the cost distributors contribute to the cost of the theatre equiptment (this cost can continue for up to a period of 10 years or until the equiptment is payed off)

So if say a Hoyts complex is going to play Need for Speed on three screens(with all screens playing all or majority of sessions) the theatre will get one hard drive to upload the film ,but then the distributor will pay three VPF's for the three screens (because if  they had been still 35mm they would have sent 3 35mm prints to the theatre) the VPF fee will go towards paying the digital equiptment in the complex.

Consortiums buy the equiptment and handle VPF charges & payments (for example Hoyts,Event,Village are all part of the same consortium, there are a few others that other theatres/chains are part of)

The above happens the same all over the world, so while print costs have reduced a little since digital its going to be years before the costs reduce significantly for distributors due to the VPF payments to theatres.

so the print cost figure is cost of X number hard drives + estimated VPF payments + 35mm prints(if still needs some) and BTW 35mm prints costs are now more expensive because there less being produced

Still cant believe no film in 2013 made $40m. I know its probably sounding 'greedy' (for lack of a better word), but it just adds salt to the wound when you consider 2012 had 3 $40m+ and 1 $50m+.

Nevertheless, 5 films over $30m is still quite impressive.

Actually we got 5 films > 35m. (Yes I know 2 passed 35m in 2014 but yeah. 3 > 38m.

And in the top 5 (35m to 39.5m),- 3 films passed 400m in the US (better relative performance in the US. - but not a massive diff)- 1 film made past 360m. (About the same relative performance )- 1 film made 260m odd in US (way better relative performance in Australia)
