ITALY (Botteghino): 'Kung Fu Panda 4' becomes biggest 2024 film

Spiderman is holding it out there.  It's possible, it will touch €23m this weekend itself.

21st Jan:

NWH -  €63,329 [-20%] from Last Friday - €79,333

Scream - €45,872 [-30%] from Last Friday - €66,417

Exactly, and after exceeding 23 million the only remaining goal would be to surpass a few positions in the all-time (official) ranking, where it is currently 32th. Ahead of it there are the Lord of the Rings 3 at 23.2M (wikipedia still has it at 22.8 but there was a re-release last summer), Minions at 23.4M and two Christmas comedies at 23.4M and 23.5M. We'll see where it will arrive

NWH finally crossed €23M on Saturday but will not win the weekend against the French movie "Le Loup et le Lion"

Well this is definitely a surprise, but a welcome one. Winning six weekends in a row and reaching Avatar just because the competition is non-existent would have been a little "embarassing", and at least I won't have to get weird tattoos for losing a bet 😅

"The Lion and the Wolf" won the weekend with €600k, while No Way Home was second with only a 18% drop from the previous week

Tomorrow the film will pass LOTR: The Return of the King at 23.2M for the 31th position of the highest grossing movies in Italy (for Cinetel), but in the "real" chart it's out of the top 40 and possibly even 50

From the idea of @charlieJatinder

MCU in Italy

Phase I  (2008-2012)

Iron Man - €7M

The Incredible Hulk - €4M

Iron Man 2 - €8.2M

Thor - €7.5M

Captain America: The First Avengers - €6.2M

The Avengers - €18M

Phase II  (2013-2015)

Iron Man 3 - €16.1M

Thor: The Dark World - €8.4M

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - €7.1M

Guardians of the Galaxy - €5.6M

Avengers: Age of Ultron - €16.6M

Ant-Man - €4.7M

Phase III  (2016-2019)

Captain America: Civil War - €11.3M

Doctor Strange - €7.3M

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 - €7.1M

Spider-man: Homecoming - €8.6M

Thor: Ragnarok - €8.8M

Black Panther - €7.2M

Avengers: Infinity War - €18.8M

Ant-Man and the Wasp - €4.9M

Captain Marvel - €10.2M

Avengers: Endgame - €30.3M

Spider-man: Far From Home - €11.8M

Phase IV  (2021-)

Black Widow - €4.8M

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - €3.8M

Eternals - €8.4M

Spider-man: No Way Home - €24.6M

In particular we can see that in the first two phases almost all the films (apart from Guardians of the Galaxy) have grossed more in Italy than in Spain, with the Iron Man movies standing out for the greatest difference. In the following phases however the two markets are more or less on par, with all 3 Spider Man films earning more in Spain

Infinity War really underperformed in Italy.

Yeah I remember that my expectation was €20 million, and the 5 days opening of 9 million only confirmed my idea

Unfortunately the film ended with a lower total than expected also due to a sun that breaks the stones and the record heat of the period, a climate that certainly doesn't encourage going to the cinema...

Nightmare Alley debuts in first position quite well, grossing more than "The Wolf and The Lion" and "No Way Home" combined

In the meantime House of Gucci has passed "Me Contro Te 2" at 5.1M and is now the sixth highest grossing film of 2021. Really not bad, Italy was the seventh largest market for this film and it doesn't happen very often

Nightmare Alley won the weekend (and I'm really surprised to see it only grossed 10M in the US), The Wolf and the Lion was second and No Way Home third

The latter over the course of the week topped 4 positions in the Cinetel all-time ranking reaching the 28th position (but in the real ranking it's outside of the top 40). Among other things, with €23.6 million it has finally doubled the total of Far From Home

This week is going to be a disaster, like very year lol

Sanremo Music Festival catalyzes attention for 5 days in a row, TV ratings for the first two days are huge (13.8M and 13.6M viewers and streamings are not included, more than the National team in the group stages last summer lol)

Yeah exactly, and with an impressive share of about 55%. The closest cinema to me has removed several shows in the evening and left only the afternoon ones 😅

In the meantime I noticed that Pieraccioni's upcoming film has been postponed from February 10th to April 21st, I don't think it would have made incredible figures but we are still talking about an actor and a director who has at least 5 films in the top 50 all time

In particular two of his films from the late 90s grossed around 40 million euros with 8 million admissions, so I think the other February releases will be quite happy of the news...

Yesterday the Sanremo Festival reached the 60% share with almost 15 million viewers, at the moment films certainly aren't the priority 🤷‍♂️

I also wanted to say that on television and on the radio I noticed some commercials for Death on the Nile and Marry Me, while nothing for Uncharted and Moonfall. And I think Jackass instead won't even be distributed

House of Gucci is holding really well, only -23% compared to last week despite being damaged (like the other movies) by an important match on saturday and by the Sanremo Festival (63% of share with almost 16M viewers on saturday, day of the final)

Spider-Man in the meantime has practically passed the 24M, it won't pass the 25M neither the next film in the all-time chart (another Christmas film at 24.7M), but during the week it will exceed the number of tickets sold by Beauty and the Beast of 2017 and probably also HP and the Goblet of Fire

I'm thinking 24,7M (really close to 25M) and 3,3M admits final run for NWH

I almost forgot to mention that yesterday Death on The Nile and Marry Me opened in first and second position with 180k and 50k euros (while Scream has already dropped out of the top 10), and together with Uncharted they'll try to save our theaters in this disastrous February

The postponing of Morbius, Il Sesso degli Angeli (by Pieraccioni) and inexplicably also of Moonfall (to March) certainly don't help...
