vc2002
"End of the 3D frenzy"??
kayumanggi
Not really. WRATH OF THE TITANS registered a 65% 3D share.
Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted April 6, 2012 Author Founder / Operator Share Posted April 6, 2012 Not really. WRATH OF THE TITANS registered a 65% 3D share. And it also lost over 45% of its predecessor's opening weekend gross. Considering Clash's 3D had putrid word of mouth, I think its reasonable to assume that 3D was a major turn-off for those audiences. The lower most of these 3D films open, the higher their share is going to be. It doesn't really show that the format is gaining (or even necessarily maintaining) popularity, just that the core audience interested in the format is still showing up. General interest seems to still be on the decline, though -- or at least still trying to find the equilibrium point.
kayumanggi
I don't think it was just 3D. It's the film as a whole.
kayumanggi
THE LORAX's 3D share was 52%. PUSS IN BOOTS' was 51%. I don't think that's the "END".
kayumanggi
Even HP: DH ll's 3D share was just 43%. For films like THE LORAX to open to 70 M and had a 52% 3D share is a clear proof the format isn't dead.

Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted April 6, 2012 Author Founder / Operator Share Posted April 6, 2012 (edited) "End of the 3D frenzy", not the end of 3D. Agreed. And by "frenzy", I think that's anything over a 55-60% share on a film makingat least $200 million. Especially non-kiddie flicks as the largest 3D audience is under the age of 18, so they're naturally going to be among the better performers when it comes to 3D shares. Of course, with 3D being pushed a little less now, that may help things. Edited April 6, 2012 by ShawnMR

XenoZodiac
So...A lot wanted to wait for the summer to decide whether the recession has actually ended. Though we are only 1 weekend into the summer, we already have an opening weekend record vanquished and a few records broken.Would the Avengers have done the same business as now in 2011? Or the constraints of the recession no longer exists?According to me, the recession was over by the time The Devil Inside opened. The Hunger Games confirmed it. Any doubters should by this time be convinced.
AniNate
If things get bad again, it'll be a new recession. The old one is over.
