July 1-4: "Call Of Duty" Invades Box Office

Call Of Duty, based on the megahit video game series of the same name, stormed the box office beaches this weekend to the tune of $120 million over four days, capturing the all time Independence Day weekend record. Its $26 million Fourth of July take is another record for the day, as Americans flooded theaters to catch the military-themed film on a big patriotic day, many of them snubbing real fireworks for those on the big screen. Fairylight and The Dark Victorian had great holds, while fellow video game adaptation Paperboy got some bad news with a wimpy $8 million opening.

Whoa, as much as Liam Neeson killing pirates and African wildlife would be a crowdpleaser, those legs are just too darn good when coupled with it's somewhat-larger-than-expected opening.Chrysalids also has too good legs.

The success of The Horn has inspired me to have a "Liam Neeson vs." film every 2-3 years in the game. It'll be an "unofficial" franchise since obviously there's no continuity between the films other than Liam Neeson being the star and kicking the butt out various enemies. Some ideas:Liam Neeson vs. Samuari and/or Ninja AssassinsLiam Neeson vs. Colombian DruglordsLiam Neeson vs. Nazis (everyone's gotta fight Nazis at some point :P )Liam Neeson vs. Space

October 7-9: "Inferno" Burns Up Box Office

The Great Inferno started off October with a blazing $21 million, beating out the tongue-in-cheek teen thriller Everybody Dies. Everybody Dies was looking to profit off the Halloween environment and score big, but its $17 million opening was middling at best. The two films did warm up the somewhat cold box office and dethroned The Horn, which ended up in third.

October 14-16: "Rapture" Shocks The World, Tops Box Office Out Of Just 370 Theaters

Rapture opened in 370 theaters this weekend, scoring a $29,000 PTA and grossing $11 million over the weekend. That was, astonishingly, good for #1 at the box office this weekend as slumps by the holdovers and disappointing performances from the openers paved Rapture's path to the top. The film received the year's best reviews to date and packed nearly every theater it appeared in. Number 61 was expected to top this weekend's box office, but critical reviews were miserable and The Number 23 is available for free on Netflix, so audiences stayed away.

October 21-23: "Rapture" Still A Giant Killer

Last weekend's shocking #1 expanded into 1000 theaters this weekend, nearly doubling its take and staying at the top of the American box office with $21 million. It fended off another double-team challenge, this time from a much stronger set of films. The Vast Dark Trilogy Part One: The Serpent's Egg, brought in plenty of crowds and made off with $19 million, good for second, while Fright Town beat out expectations and finished in a respectable third.

October 28-30: "Rapture" Goes Wide, Blows Box Office Wide Open

After two weeks of hearing about a film open in less than 1,100 theaters, many Americans finally got to see what all the fuss was about, and they packed theaters for Rapture to the tune of $29 million, making it the second box office threepeat in as many months. The pre-Halloween weekend was a big one not just for Rapture's saturated opening, but for openers Pandemic and Angel of Death as well, both of which exceeded expectations and filled out the top three.
