Spelling out $5.7M at 1,166 dates in 19 territories, domestic No. 1 Ouija raised its international total to $7.7M. The worldwide cume is now $42.7M. Halloween helped scare up strong Ouija debuts in the UK, Indonesia and the Philippines where the Universal spirit board pic was No. 1. The $2.2M UK bow is the second biggest opening weekend for a horror film in 2014, behind only Annabelle. Universal puts Ouija slightly ahead of Ninja Turtles, although Paramount has TMNT at $2.3M, so the race for No. 1 in Britain will be tight. The Netherlands, Sweden, Vietnam, UAE, Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries had good openings in the Top 10. Universal allows that Hong Kong and India – where there is strong local product on release — came in below expectations. Russia gets in on the game on November 13.

Opening in Russia behind the Interstellar holdover, it came in No. 2 with $1.5M at 604 dates. Universal says that’s bigger than both Sinister and Insidious. Ouija’s next openings are Czech Republic and Greece on November 27, and Turkey on November 28."

"Continuing its trip round the international playing board, Ouija opened to better-than-expected numbers in Spain this frame. With $1.5M it was No. 2 at 234 dates. That’s the biggest opening in the market for a horror film this year and the 3rd best ever for a Blumhouse title. With a holiday tomorrow, the Spanish box office is expected to grow. The overseas cume is now $21.6M."

"Backed by a No. 1 opening in Mexico, Ouija added a not-at-all scary $5.4M this frame. The Michael Bay/Jason Blum production is now playing in 14 territories and raised the international total to $33.5M. Mexico grabbed 30% of the market at open with $2.7M from 633 dates. Colombia was good for No. 4 with $545K at 140 dates. Universal says that Italy’s No. 4 debut ($1.3M at 212) was ahead of the bow of Horrible Bosses 2"

"Ouija scared up a further $4M in 15 markets, bringing the offshore total to $39.8M. Universal says Venezuela opened at No. 4 with $388K at 30 dates. (Venezuela is a fast-growing market, it’s just a pity that box office bolivares can’t be exchanged for dollares… yet.) The open was on par with The Conjuring and is one of the biggest ever for a horror movie. Mexico was a No. 2 hold with $2M at 626 dates for an 11-day total of $6M. Ouija crosses to Germany next weekend."

"The DVD of Universal’s Ouija releases Stateside on February 3, but the Michael Bay/Jason Blum-produced scarer is still opening theatrically over the next several weeks. Bowing in Germany at No. 4 this frame, it earned $1.2M at 259 dates. The full pull was $3.1M in 15 territories for a total of $44.6M this weekend. There are seven more markets to go including France on April 22."
