A pleasant surprise. Great script and fantastic camerawork. I love how this movie has black-and-gray morality rather than the black-and-white of most action films. Unlike a lot of people I thought the ass shot at the end was hilarious.

 

The film is far too cliched to rise above a B grade however. Even though it parodies a lot of old silly action movie tropes, it becomes the very thing it's parodying.

 

I hope Taron Egerton will go far.

Kingsman: The Secret Service is a fun wacky Bond send-up. Enjoyably subversive yet also smartly utilizing the tropes of the spy genre, it's just an enjoyable watch. However, it feels a bit long at points, and a lot of the action is more fun in concept than to watch. That says, the subtle themes are great, and it's got a really great ensemble. Jackson and Firth are obvious highlights, but this is also the film that launched Sofia Boutella's career as a scene-stealing assistant to Jackson, and personally, she's the highlight of the film to me. Kingsman: The Secret Service remains an action film that oozes with style and surprisingly nourishes with substance. A very smart blockbuster that never forgets to entertain. B
