Heretic
About Time debuts top of the UK box office with estimated £1.8m, including £400k previews. Jonwo
£1.8m isn't great but it is not bad considering its September, I think it'll have good legs, wonder how Riddick did.
SchumacherFTW
That's lower than Atonement right? Could struggle to make £10m.
CJohn
I was expecting more for About Time. Any news on how Riddick did?

SchumacherFTW
Riddick has disappointed aswell if its opened under about time 1.8m in my view Not really. It's not exactly a revered franchise here, and would have considerably higher attendance than the much adored Dredd from this time last year if it's over 1m

Jonwo
That's lower than Atonement right? Could struggle to make £10m. Depends on how it fares next week with Insidious 2, Rush and White House Down. Next three weeks are quite busy with Diana, The Call, RIPD, Blue Jasmine, Prisoners, Runner, Runner etc Last year there was only really Looper and Paranorman. JCS
Universal’s romantic comedy scores an estimated $2.8m (£1.8m), including previews, to dethrone One Direction; eOne’s Riddick records $2.2m (£1.4m) debut, including previews, to land second. Reportedly Richard Curtis’ last film as director, About Time has ensured he’ll go out of the directing game with a number one. Universal’s romantic comedy scored an estimated $2.8m (£1.8m) debut from its 555 sites, including around $600,000 (£400,000) in previews. If that number holds up, it’ll be on par with Curtis’ previous outing as director, The Boat That Rocked, which sailed to a $2.8m (£1.8m) debut, including $739,000 (£471,203) in previews, from 462 sites. However, it’s some way behind Love Actually’s $10.4m (£6.7m) UK bow, including $1.6m (£1m) in previews, from 477 sites. The main target for About Time will be The Boat That Rocked’s $9.8m (£6.23m) result to avoid being Curtis’ lowest-ever UK grosser as director. Also for Universal, Despicable Me 2 is now the third biggest animation of all time in the UK at $69.1M (£45.4M), surpassing Toy Story 2’s $71.1m (£45.3m). Shrek 2’s $75.4m (£48.1m) is potentially a bridge too far. EONEThe week’s second highest new entry came in the form of eOne’s Riddick, which fought its way to a $2.2m (£1.4m) from its 400 sites at a healthy average of $5,533 (£3,530). That marks a series high for the trilogy, topping the $1.6m (£1.04m) achieved by The Chronicles of Riddick. It’s worth noting though that Chronicles opening came from slightly less sites (380) and without previews, whereas Riddick was boosted by $697,000 (£444,417) from Wed-Thurs previews. Without those previews, Riddick’s Fri-Sun tally of $1.5m (£967,715) would have seen it chart third, instead of second. Heretic
Rush, Insidious 2, WHD and that other animation Justin and the Knights of Valour this week, which probably hardly anyone has heard of. Nothing above £2m this weekend I think. Not sure what will take top spot though. Maybe insidious.
SchumacherFTW
Don't rule out Rush doing 2m this weekend. Its a brilliant film, wom from advance screenings has been superb and it seems to have a reasonable amount of buzz. I think insidious should hit the barrier too, doubling it's debut from 2011 should be a done deal. Remember, September isn't the same wasteland that it is in the US, look at Tinker Tailor a few years ago.
Films
Insidious 2 £2.3M (strong buzz)Rush £2.1M (this will have at least a 4x multiplyer)Justin knights of valor £1.78M (awareness is high among kiddie audiences and the trailer has been shown at every single animation film recently)White House down £1.00M. (If that, Sony have fucked this up)
