The movie force big cinema to drop their d-box, screen x and dolby PLF screen and allocate all these hall to a movie that are not formatted into any all these premium screen. the 4 days opening weekend was only 12.2m (2.8m usd) but by the end of second weekend, the movie will likely hit RM45m or ~$10m+. And the movie was so crazy popular in suburban and rural area, many actually have to travel to big cities where showtimes are abundant. I am not surprised by Disney decided to delay thor 4 because of this phenomenon. Yeah, with Minions taking the PLFs and morning slots and Mat Kilau doing record breaking numbers. It would've been a really nasty fight for screens if it kept its release date. By the end of the 2nd weekend, the movie achieve 3.8x legs from its opening weekend WITHOUT any holiday boost. This is probably something unheard in Malaysia history. This coming weekend is a long weekend with Monday being a public holiday. With Thor 4 now fleeing from this holiday weekend, Mat Kilau should dominate once again.
