The single "winners" are domestic ones - Honig im Kopf back in the Top 20, already very close to 7mil total, and Victoria with a decent drop and PTA. (Both seem to profit from wins at the German film awards and according headlines) Next weekend: A look at the forecast and it's obvious most people will spend their time in the beautiful outdoors instead of cinemas. But there's two openers that should save the weekend from total disaster: Minions and Insidious 3. With weather as it is, 500k admissions would be very ok for the Minions (should see very healthy legs, a total >3mil seems a sensible bet), and Insidious 3 might attract about 75k admissions. With business already very slow this weekend, holdovers should see more normal drops next weekend. And in some regions school holidays have started, so better weekdays for family stuff ! (a very little silver lining)

miketheavenger
I bet it's always nice weather in Germany in the summer time. I remember when I visited there, it almost never rained. That's not exactly true. The last couple of weeks have been quite rainy, but now summer has taken control.
IndustriousAngel
it's shaping up to become one of the hottest weekends in history ... I don't know but that might actually help a bit - cinemas should do a flash campaign (flee the heat!) presales for "Minions" are very high, this thing might get near 1mil admissions - just imagine what it might do on a rainy weekend! Despicable Me 2 also came out during a hot summer two years ago and still did great so I'm not entirely surprised by Minions' success.

I was in Germany back in 1998 visiting. That was just based on one experience. My apologizes.

I can understand that you thought your experience during your time here was normal, and there has definitely been way too little amounts of rain this year. IndustriousAngel
First weekend trend from insidekino.de: #1: Minions - 800k admissions (or more) #2: JW - 175k (-65%) #3: Ted2 - 150k (-60%) Minions are the only thing saving this weekend from total disaster, as predicted ...
miketheavenger
I think these Minion numbers show just how popular the Despicable Me franchise is here. IMO it's only behind Ice Age in terms of animated movie series and at least on par with Madagascar.

IndustriousAngel
I think 1,5mil would have been possible with perfect weather. But with kiddie movies, it's not that much about 1st weekend; it may happen that we'll see an actual increase next weekend with (hopefully) rainier weather! IndustriousAngel
2nd weekend trend even lower, ugh ... Insidious3 opens around 85k admissions incl. previews, that's an ok number considering the overall poor attendance.

Some long-legged releases are back in the Top20: QecqoafaBD (now in week 50!), Honig im Kopf and the Bélier family (pushed by festivals and/or open air shows, and I guess there were some school shows too). Next weekend: No rest for the wicked; the sunny weather will continue (with a bit lower temperatures we hope), so don't get any hopes. Opening are The Age of Adaline and Terminator: Genisys plus some smaller releases but really nothing to get excited about. The minions will continue their streak of BO domination.
