juni78ukr
I really can't understand all those Famous Five aka Fünf Freunde films. Old characters and ridiculously poor written modern stories. I know previous films were successful but this one looks like a poor effort even compared to them.
el sid
The second trend is up and shows almost no changes: #1 TR 160 - at least it stabilized #2 Red Sparrow 115k - a bit up #3 BP or The Post with each 90k #4 5 Freunde 75k #6 Fifty Shades Freed 50k #7 Earth 2 50k #8 Game Night 40k #9 Die Biene Maja 40k #10 Die kleine Hexe 40k #11 Shape of Water 35k #12 Vielmachglas 35k #13 Mary Magdalene 30k - even worse #14 Death Wish 25k
IndustriousAngel
Depressing weekend ... but some numbers seem a bit low to me; Shape of Water should definitely be in the Top10; with openers that weak holds should generally be better so let's wait for actual numbers.
IndustriousAngel
Final estimates a bit better for most releases ... still not good.
George Parr
Third trend is up, basically everything improved, Fünf Freunde with a big jump: #1 Tomb Raider 165k #2 Red Sparrow 120k #3 Fünf Freunde 110k #4 Black Panther 95k #4 The Post 95k #6 Earth 2 65k #7 Fifty Shades Freed 55k #8 Die Biene Maja 45k #9 Game Night 42.5k #10 Die kleine Hexe 42.5k
IndustriousAngel
Don't understand that jump from 5F either ... still a bad number, about 40% down from the 2015 release.
el sid
The Monday update from insidekino.de looks as often a bit more friendly overall but most of the new releases stay just very weak: #1 TR 165k/175k #2 Red Sparrow 120k/590 #3 5 Freunde 117.5k #4 BP 97.5k/1.440M #5 The Post 97.5k/740k #6 Earth 2 67.5k #7 Fifty Shades 3 55k/2.900M #8 Die kleine Hexe 47.5k/1.365M #9 Die Biene Maja 47.5k/225k #10 Game Night 42.5k/255k #11 Shape of Water 40k/380k #12 Vielmachglas 35k/130k #13 Wendy 2 32.5k/325k #14 Mary Magdalene 30k #15 Death Wish 25k/85k #16 Billboards 22.5k/635k #17 Das schweigende Klassenzimmer 22.5k/115k ... Next weekend: Business should be a lot livelier as there's some attractive new releases - Peter Rabbit which had some previews and seems to get a good reception, 1mil total seems possible - with Easter weekend around the corner, it might win the weekend. Pacific Rim 2 is for the action crowd; while the first one wasn't a big hit, it did solid numbers, so this one has a chance to win the weekend at least money-wise. And Dany Boon's latest, La Ch’tite famille, tries to cash in on the succes of Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2,3mil total) even if it's no sequel - but that was back in 2008, still an opening somewhere around 100k might be possible. Also opening - romance Midnight Sun, biopic I, Tonya (don't know if there's a market here) and some more docus - something for everyone it seems except horror (well, there's even a horror release but it's Turkish).
IndustriousAngel
uh-oh, Pacific Rim 2 is not looking too hot on opening night - in fact near flop territory.
el sid
Still no first trend from insidekino.de available but some Thursday actuals from Blickpunkt:Film: The new releases: Peter Rabbit: 30k (released in 637 theaters, ok to very good reviews) → Blickpunkt:Film (which are not as good as Mark_G from insidekino.de in OW extrapolations) see ca. 350-400k admissions, which pleasantly surprises me Pacific Rim: Uprising: 19k/#1 from US$ -265k yesterday (500, mediocre reviews, the first one had 35k admissions OD) - indeed a bit meager Die Sch`tis in Paris/La Ch`tite famille: 6k (330, overall ok reviews but worse than for the first one) Midnight Sun: 5.5k (316, ok reviews ) I, Tonya: 2.5k (115, mostly good and very good reviews) Zwei Herren im Anzug: 2.7k (a German drama, 105, ok to very good reviews) The holdovers: Tomb Raider: 13k (actuals last Thursday 20k) – an ok hold! Red Sparrow: 10k (13k) – a good hold coming as always BP: 7.5k → 60k OW projected from Blickpunkt: Film Edited March 23, 2018 by el sid

Pacific Rim 2 opened on the lowest end of my expectations, french blockbuster La Ch'tite famille even lower. Nothing can save 2018 it seems, again we're nearly 20% below 2017 … the one positive standout atm is The Post which is enjoying a very leggy run! Next weekend: Another big children's book adaption - Jim Knopf & Lukas der Lolkomotivführer - should do similar numbers to Die kleine Hexe and Peter Rabbit and might win the weekend (otoh, the Easter weekend should give the Rabbit an edge). Domestic low-brow Verpiss dich, Schneewittchen might profit from very little competition in the comedy market, maybe it can make the Top3!
IndustriousAngel
well, going by my theater the weekend winner is Rabbit; Jim Knopf is doing only half of Rabbit's business ... but the book is more popular in Germany than here in Austria so the situation might be different. George Parr
Per Mark_G, Peter Rabbit made 90% of the last weekend in this Monday-Wednesday period, while Fünf Freunde even managed 125% of its weekend.
IndustriousAngel
well, with weather like we have atm (5°C, rain and windy) and bored children thanks to Easter holidays, family movies should be packed, and it's clearly the rabbit's weekend!
