Mexico Box Office | Inside Out 2 close to $72M; will Day One create much noise?

Recommended Posts

MAY 9-12 WEEKEND.

1. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - $108.1M

2. Garfield - $50.2/$210.4M (-31.34%)

3. The Fall Guy - $10.9M/$60.7M (-49.54%)

4. Jugaremos en el Bosque - $8.8M/$29.4M (-29.6%)

5. Challengers - $5.6M/$37.1M (-37.78%)

6. Godzilla x Kong - $3.6M/$560.3M (-54.43%)

7. Firma Aquí - $1.7M

8. Frida (2024) - $1.4M

9. The Jungle Bunch 2 - $1.3M

10. Kung Fu Panda 4 - $1.3M/606M (-72.34%)

Good opening for Apes as it stays only 8% below War for the Planet of the Apes showing good consistency and looking to top $250M. It doesn't face direct competition aside from Furiosa -that will be a lower grosser- but screens will be split severely for upcoming releases. Admissions-wise is about 25% behind.

Garfield holds pretty well on the weekend but weekdays are depressed. It will see competition this week from IF but late legs could bring it still to $300M+.

The Fall Guy lacks a better WOM and looks like won't get to top The Lost City but is going to surpass Ticket to Paradise at some point this week.

Standout hold for Jugaremos en el Bosque which is surprisingly going to beat last year's Huesera and become the highest grossing horror local title since pandemic start. Another adult-oriented release that held pretty well this week is Challengers that keeps facing screen loss.

If opened at #2, $3.2M, as per Box Office Pro; Tarot could only make $1M.

The Apes repeated on top, $12M total, very close to 200M lc; Garfield reached $15.3M after a $1.9M weekend, about 257M lc.  The Fall Guy is at $4M, won't reach 100M lc.

UPDATE: Deadline's article puts If's OW at $2.9M.

Actuals for Mexico have just been released, and I can’t say I’m surprised Paramount inflated Mexico box office numbers as well… just like in the US.

IF actually debuted with USD 2.87 million (not USD 3.2 million). Garfield actuals came up USD 300k higher, cume USD15.65 million by Sunday May 19.

Furiosa opens this weekend, I want to believe it will do better (lc and audience) than Fury Road?

Wow so Garfield will actually cross 25 million dollars in Mexico. Apes seems to have a chance in crossing 20 million.

Mexico is becoming more and more a key international market.

10. Gurren Lagann: Childhood's End - $2.5M

MAY 23-26 WEEKEND.

1. Furiosa - $40.3M

2. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - $36M/$257.2M (-39.6%)

3. IF - $32M/$91.1M (-22.52%)

10. The Fall Guy - $1.4M/$71.1M (-63.16%)

Good run so far for Apes which is on the run for $300M; milestone that Garfield has passed already.

IF also survived pretty well despite a mediocre opening weekend; similar as Furiosa that underwhelms as has done in the rest of the world.

This Sunday is Election Day for most positions that range from majors to governors, Senators and Congressmen and President so will be a quiet week in terms of releases aside from Immaculate that has been heavily promoted by its distributor.

Historically, this has been a good week for animations and family films so Garfield and IF should see some nice holds. However, more adult-oriented titles tend to suffer from it.

MAY 30 - JUNE 2 WEEKEND.

1. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - $31.6M/$303.3M (-12.22%)

2. If - $31.2M/$131.2M (-2.5%)

3. Immaculate - $28.7M

4. Furiosa - $26M/$80.2M (-35.48%)

5. Garfield - $23.4M/$324.3M (-6.4%)

6. Haikyuu! - $14.9M

7. Ordinary Angels - $8.6M

8. Tarot - $8.5M/$48.5M (-30.33%)

9. Jing Tian Jiu Yuan - $3.6M

10. Hachiko - $3M/$7.9M (-11.76%)

Kingdom climbs back to the top of the chart taking advantage of Election weekend and its good wom becoming the fourth title to surpass $300M this year. It's now the second highest grossing of the Apes franchise and by the end of its run will be No.1 surpassing 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

As expected, If and Garfield  were the most benefited holdovers barely dropping from last weekend. The former it's saving itself from being a failure doing just ok and the latter is now Sony's highest grossing non-Transylvania animation. Hachiko held pretty good too; it's a story that always works.

Haikyuu! pulls off an excellent opening that places behind last month's Spy x Family by just $0.4M but a significant difference that is PSA: $21K per screen for the former compared to $12K for the latter. Suzume compares to them both with a stronger $28K per screen revenue.
