Purple Minion
Weekend actuals. Bad drop for Spidey (500M lc is in danger), good hold by Gru and Co. Decent Sunday previews for Transformers 5, but none of the other new entries cracked the $1M OW. Carlangonz
TF5 starts with an OD of $21.59 MXN ($1.23M USD) and with the previews numbers its total is $38.4M MXN ($2.18M USD). Is aiming for a $110M-$120M ($6.2M-$6.8M USD), maybe less.

Carlangonz
JULY 21-23 WEEKEND. TRANSFORMERS 5 OPENS A LITTLE BIT DOWN FROM THE PREVIOUS ONE. DESPICABLE ME 3 AND SPIDERMAN: HOMECOMING FIGHT FOR NO. 2 Opening with $99.01M across 3 Days and $120.6M on its 4-day Opening, this weekend finally arrived Transformers: The Last Knight, those numbers are up until $137.48M after one day of 3D Previews the past sunday. TF4 opened with $128.88M ($205.73M with previews) in July 2014 before going for a $435.6M run and went to #2 annual just behind Maleficent. This one would need at least $600M to get a spot on Top 3 annual, and that's something that won't happen. The most realistic scenario is just like POTC 5, a total somewhere $270M-$280M, and with a little bit of lucky will cross $300M ($15M-$16M USD). In a close comp for No. 2 are DM3 and SM:HC, the first one came with another decent drop of 46% while the other one keeps on free-fall (60%) despite the fact that the classes are almost over. This tuesday all of the schools in the country are done, so wednesday and next weekend will be another close competition between these two 'family-friendly' films. DM3 already passed Beauty an the Beast to become the second highest grossing movie of the year, unfortunately won't get as high as Fate of the Furious ($670M). Soon will surpass DM2 ($603M) but still is doubtful if can match IA4 ($618M). Spidey is now the highest CBM of the year ahead of Wonder Woman ($412M) but with its underperformance will barely pass $500M, and by november will give that place to either Ragnarok or Justice League. WKND/TOTAL (LC) TOTAL (USD) Transformers: The Last Knight $99,01/$137,48 $7,81 Spiderman: Homecoming $30,16/$435,53 $24,43 Despicable Me 3 $27,93/$570,54 $31,87 Gifted $11,27/$37,07 $2,1 Wish Upon $4,32/$20,29 $1,15 The Girl with All the Gifts $3,12/$14,53 $826K The Wall $2,94/$3,35 $191K 2:22 $2,53/$13,86 $788K Vive Por Mí $2,37/$2,71 $154K Demain tout commence $2,12/$2,43 $138K This Thursday: War for the Planet of the Apes VS Dunkirk. Any thoughts? 1
Carlangonz
WOW! The drop for Gifted was really amazing, just 25% and almost double the PTA of TF5! Is a perfect counter-programming, despite the fact that is playing in a small number of theatres and is exclusive of Cinepolis. Demain tout commence (french remake of Instructions Not Included) also did it really well, it just played in 84 screens.

Any chance for expansion? Mexico is already Gifted's biggest OS market by a wide margin. I think the only other remaining market that has the potential to be as big is South Korea if it gets released there (considering how well it's played in Hong Kong & Taiwan - and in China on VOD)

And i don't think Fox has any plan on giving it a wide release, they'll just keep it playing a few months with the same number of screens but moving it across the country
Carlangonz
Starting today: Dunkirk and War for the Planet of the Apes. Rise did a $52.4M OW ($61.9M including previews) and legged into a $170M ($12.7M USD) total. Dawn opened with $106.97M ($168.11M including 4-Day Previews) but was much more front-loaded that Rise, so ended with $320.99M ($24.5M USD) and landed as #6 of 2014. War is opening in around 2,000-2,300 screens, many of them PLF and 4D. My personal prediction for OW is $80M-$90M Chris Nolan is a well-known name in Mexico and its fan-base continues growing-up, specially because of movies like Inception and Interstellar. Inception had a very strange release after some issues with Cinepolis, at the end shows a $25.64M OW. The huge deal with Inception were its incredible legs (it's almost impossible see something like that again), it held 7 weeks at Top 10 and made around $125M ($8.9M USD), all of it without IMAX or 3D. Interstellar had a bigger OW ($42.28M) but obviously was more front-loaded ($120M/$5.7M USD). This weekend, Dunkirk open in less screens that Apes, about 1,500 screens. It will have its release in IMAX and a few showtimes in PLF and 4D. I'm curious to see how the Nolan fan-base and the Styles/1D fan-base help its numbers and multipler. My personal prediction is $50M-$60M.
