EXCLUSIVE:  The Favourite director Yorgos Lanthimos and Searchlight Pictures are looking to stay in business with each other as the studio is greenlighting his next film AND. Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley are set to star. With a script developed by Element Pictures and Film4 and penned by Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou, the film is produced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element, along with Kasia Malipan and Lanthimos.

Ollie Madden and Daniel Battsek are executive producing for Film4, which co-financed the project. It begins principal photography in New Orleans next month.

Plot details are being kept under wraps.

“Working with Yorgos continues to be a highlight for us at Searchlight, and this is yet another truly original project that sets his work apart,” said Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield. “Working again with Emma, Willem, Jesse and Margaret as well as Element and Film4 is just the icing on the cake.”

Probably not their primary aim but have to imagine you can't count it out with the pedigree

This does make me curious what they're aiming for promoting in the fall. Opens up a lot more room for Nightbitch and In the Blink of an Eye to get festival attention.

Searchlight seems to not really care much about strategy. Poor Things was supposed to release in early September and only ended up in the middle of the award season time because of the strike, and won 4 Oscars that maybe wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for the forced delay.

Nightbitch was going to Hulu from what i remember reading, likely because of Disney pressure. Hoping they revert it, it’s a promising movie.

Yeah, both were initially considered Hulu releases but I don't think anyone aside from Netflix really believes in the direct-to-streaming business model anymore. Also, this year the academy rules are a lot stricter about mandatory theatrical releases.
