D&W had a very close 50/50 DOM/OS ratio which typically means massive over performance DOM, like with TGM.

 

Black Panther actually beat Infinty War DOM which was shocking. Unfortunately BP did much less OS because of "reasons". Reasons being the all black cast.

The only MCU movies that outgrossed Black Panther overseas at the time of its release (of the 18 films in the franchise at that point) were The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Iron Man 3. Three of those were obviously Avengers team-up movies, which generally gross more than any MCU solo superhero adventures, and Iron Man 3 had the benefit of a post-The Avengers bump--leaving Black Panther as "only" the second highest overseas grossing single superhero movie of the MCU at time of release.

 

I'm not really seeing how the whole world being racist against Black Panther really makes much sense

No BP1 and 2 Did great for a comic book films overseas.

 

As the films target more a black audience, it meant it played much more strongly in the USA then usual.
