I thought the first hour was intriguing and enjoyable, but the climax was insanely underwhelming. Performances were good and the visuals were pretty, but the film left no lasting impression whatsoever.

Started out okay I thought the first 40 minutes was humorous but then it fell apart. C-

Indeed the mess everyone has described. Sometimes refreshingly Burton sometimes tiringly dull, but a mess nevertheless. 
 
DS biggest crime is going for too much when it would have been better off keeping things simple. No werewolf, no Victoria, no David's dad little side story, no Ghosts, no Dr. Hoffman subplot.
 
Had it focused on Barnabas and Angelique tragic love story while still retaining the fish-out-of-water comedic elements, and using the rebuilding of the Collins family's business as a pretext, we would have a much better movie.
