The Elephant Man, directed by David Lynch, is a stunning masterpiece. The film stars Anthony Hopkins as Frederick Treves and John Hurt as John Merrick. The Elephant Man is the most emotional movie that I have seen. I laughed, cried, smiled and was angry while watching the film. John Merrick is terrific person and it shows you that you should not judge a book by its cover. 10/10

Simply a fantastic film.  Lynch at his most accessible, but let's be real here, this is still a very Lynch experience.

At its core this is a black take on human nature and society in which everyone involved simply sees John as a means to an end in some form or fashion.  Not really much good happens to John, and yet it is the upbeat, positive moments in which human nature is shown in a positive light that are most memorable.

Such a vivid world on display here, nearly impossible to not be sucked into the somber mood and tone.  Deserving of classic status.

it might wander into melodrama on one or two occasions, but for the most part this is a film of the most genuine and heartfelt kind. naturally it has little of lynch's usual surrealism, but it's still haunting, with delicious circus music and an absolutely outstanding performance by john hurt. it's nice to see lynch's more sentimental side, and shows he's nearly as great with straightforward storytelling as he is with more abstract theorising.
