Sam
It will pass 6m admissions on new year's day, and reach around 7.5m next Sunday. Competitions are weak. The Suspect is slowing down after huge Christmas debut. There is one local film which opens on 9th, but the potential is not big. Frozen and Jack Ryan won't hurt The Attorney. Also WOM is crazy good. So it will dominate box office until January 23 when two local films open. 9m is locked, 10m is likely. Even 11m or 12m is possible. That would be incredible. I really hope it'll happen. Just legendary for Song Kang Ho Thank you very much podo

Olive
Box Office Records2013 marked yet another record year for Korean cinema, with theater admissions surpassing 200 million for the first time. In 2012, the total came to only 195 million. With the release of more box office hits in December alone, the number of theatergoers in Korea stood at 211 million as of Dec. 30. This makes Korea, which has a population of 50 million, the country that watches the most movies per person in the world with an average Korean seeing about four films each year. The box office record can be attributed to the success of a string of homegrown films, as eight of the year's top 10 grossing films were Korean, and the growth of multiplex theaters. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/korea-2013-review-psy-dennis-667882

podo
January Release Dates 1/9 The Plan Man (플랜맨) The Wolf of Wall Street Don Jon Battle of the Year Only Lovers Left Alive - limited 1/16 Frozen Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Oldboy Blue Is the Warmest Color - limited Fruitvale Station - limited 1/23 Miss Granny (수상한 그녀) Hot Young Bloods (피끓는 청춘) When a Man Loves a Woman (남자가 사랑할 때) The Family 1/29 The Huntresses (조선미녀삼총사) The Nut Job Inside Llewyn Davis - limited * 1/30~2/1: Seollal holiday (Lunar New Year holiday) The Plan Man is a local romantic comedy. It looks cute enough, it should do okay. My Prediction: 1.3m~1.5m Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the well-known hollywood actors in Korea, but The Wolf of Wall Street is a hard type of movie to become a hit. I just hope it won't flop like Django. Recent DiCaprio: Shutter Island - 1,006,833 Inception - 5,926,948 Django Unchained - 260,144 The Great Gatsby - 1,445,217 My Prediction: around 500k Frozen has the best possible release date, so it should pass 1m easily. Recent Disney: Tangled - 1,011,611 Wreck-It Ralph - 918,299 My Prediction: 1.2m~1.5m Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is the only hollywood action movie in January. Last year Jack Reacher did 784,031 with similar release date. My Prediction: 700k~900k There are four local films aim at Seollal holiday. Miss Granny - Comedy Hot Young Bloods - Comedy When a Man Loves a Woman - Drama/Romance The Huntresses - Period Action Comedy My Prediction: Miss Granny - above 4m (I see break out potential somehow) Hot Young Bloods - around 3m (good appeal for teen/20s) When a Man Loves a Woman - 2m~2.5m The Huntresses - below 1.5m (it looks lame) btw, my most anticipated January releases are 1. Inside Llewyn Davis 2. Frozen 3. The Wolf of Wall Street 4. Blue Is the Warmest Color 5. Only Lovers Left Alive Also I'll see Jack Ryan, Fruitvale Station, The Plan Man, Hot Young Bloods. And maybe Miss Granny or some local indie flicks. Edited January 1, 2014 by podo
