"A New Menace" - Game 2.8

A new threat on the block, and there's nowhere to run.

This season has been very top-heavy. One team dominated four weeks in a row before relinquishing that title to "The Shadowkillers" in Game 5. Ever since then, though, the season has been favoring "The Black Stallions." In an impressive feat, "The Stallions" have won their third consecutive week, marking the second time in the history of the game that a team has won three weeks in a row (the other time was earlier this season with "The Crimson Knights"). The new lords of the block are not giving in, and now it's their turn to shake the tables.

We are down to eleven standing players on five teams. This means we're almost to the Top Ten...but this season's Top Ten is going to be different than it was last season. This week, a Double Elimination Challenge can be held (if "The Black Stallions" choose it), so that we will be down to 9 players. This means that, should the 9th player be eliminated next week, we will have our Second Chance Challenge determine the final 9th and 10th slots of the Top Ten within the next two weeks, and from there we will finish out the season with those ten players. The Second Chance Challenge will be open to all who have been eliminated in positions 18 through 9.

Now onto this week's results. Firstly, just to make the scores look prettier, I dropped the 3rd question because everyone scored 0%. That said, it didn't alter the rankings at all.

THE BLACK STALLIONS

DoctorWho: 98.15% +8 (+2 2nd individual, +3 1st team, +3 3 week streak)

XenoZodiac: 98.15% +8 (+2 2nd individual, +3 1st team, +3 3 week streak)

AVERAGE: 98.15% +16 (IMMUNE)

THE CRIMSON KNIGHTS

Totem: 89.61% +8 (+8 winning Challenge 7)

AVERAGE: 89.61% +8

EPIC SENSATION

Fakhir: 92.03%

THE SHADOWKILLERS

acsc1312: 94.09% +4 (+2 2nd team, +1 highest Question 2, +1 highest Question 4)

CEDAR: 93.65% +3 (+2 2nd team, +1 highest Question 1)

Goffe Rises: 97.03% +2 (+2 2nd team)

THE CHALLENGE - INFORMATION

"The Black Stallions" won this week. This means it is their decision as to whether a Challenge will be held at all. They have three choices:

1. The Challenge (send two members against each other into a competition whereby one will be eliminated)* **

2. The Creator Challenge (Challenge The Creator (me) - If you win, you can double your point total. If you lose, you forfeit all your points.)

3. NEW The Assimilation and Elimination Challenge (The objective here is for the winning team to choose someone(s) they wish to see on their team, usually a high scoring player. The winning team selects a player they wish to have join them. However, that player may wish to stay on his team. In this case, the winning team will Challenge that player. The winning team establishes the benchmark for that player to pass on the Challenge (for example, the player must score 85%+ or 90%+ or something). If the player beats that benchmark, he can stay on his original team. If he does not, he will be assimilated onto the winning team

NEW: Now this Challenge also features a second selection. The winning team chooses one member from any given team to join them. The other member of that team will go into a Sudden Death Challenge. He must score above the benchmark established by the winning team to stay alive (the benchmark cannot be higher than 90%))

*In The Challenge (option 1) the top 3 teams are immune and people can buy immunity. All bets are off for the other two Challenges.

**This week's Challenge will be a Double Elimination Challenge. 3 people will be sent in, and only one will come out alive.

Immune players (from The Challenge Option 1): acsc1312, CEDAR, Goffe Rises, JackO, and Sims

Immunty cost: +10 points

Wow guys, I just noticed something...

The number of new members has surpassed the number of veterans this season. We started with 11 veterans and 7 new players. So far 1 new player has been eliminated, but 6 veterans have been eliminated.

Who do you think the strongest new player is? Honestly, all of them have been really surprising. DoctorWho and riczhang dominate in points and winning team streaks and usually post two of the best scores each week. Yet in the past two weeks Goffe has climbed up to the top as well and is even outdoing his two veteran teammates. And both JackO and Sims have surprised the past two weeks by posting stellar scores; this week Sims came in highest, and it would be the all-time high (not counting Box Office Obliteration, where Rekab scored 101% one weekend) except that his score was inflated by my removing the 3rd question. And Fakhir has been one of the most consistent new players and was for a time, anyways, one of the two or three strongest predictors among the new players.

By the way, this game often seems to favor new players. Maybe they're just not deemed as big of threats.

The Challenge - Week 8

This week's Challenge is a Double Elimination Challenge, which means two people will be eliminated. However, three people, of four possible candidates will go into The Challenge. Totem purchased immunity, but riczhang declined on purchasing immunity. Both Fakhir and Schumacher also decided not to purchase immunity, and so the three entering The Challenge are riczhang, Fakhir, and Schumacher. Two will be eliminated, and one will move on with the other 8 contestants left standing.

2. Predict The Watch's Wednesday per theater average

3. Predict Ice Age: Continental Drop's Wednesday percent drop

DEADLINE IS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1 AT 11:00 P.M. EASTERN (10:00 P.M. CENTRAL)

Ew, this is a stinger.

The Challenge - Week 8

Three members, one winner. Riczhang of "The Crimson Knights" went in against both members of "Epic Sensation", Fakhir and Schumacher FTW. Only one will come out alive. So how did things work out?

Question 1:

Fakhir won this question with 99.46%, a very strong lead so far as Schumacher came in second with 93.59% and riczhang placed last with 91.95%

Question 2:

Things still favor Fakhir at this point, but riczhang posted the highest with 99.78%. Fakhir came in second with 99.13%, and Schumacher placed last with 91.96%.

Question 3:

Ouch. Everyone took a hit. Fakhir scored first though with 84.34%, followed closely by Schumacher in second with 80.12%. In a distant third, riczhang "oopsied" with a 56.02% score.

So if you've been following along, you should be able to tell by now which player moves on, but just to tease you some more.

The player leaving in 11th place* is :

riczhang, with an 82.58% score.

The player leaving in 10th place* is:

Schumacher FTW with an 88.56% score

And the player moving on is:

Fakhir, with a 94.31% score. Congratulations!

*Positions are subject to change as all eliminated players thus far (and one more player to be eliminated) will have a chance to vie for re-entry with the upcoming Second Chance Challenge.

Now, how will teams work now that we're about to get into the Top Ten games? Well, we have three teams left standing, and two teams have one member each. Usually I would just put those two players together on a hybrid team, but not this week. Instead, "The Black Stallions" get to choose which team(s) to place Totem of "The Crimson Knights" and Fakhir of "Epic Sensation." Indeed, those two teams no longer exist. "The Stallions" can choose to recruit one player and put one on either "Team Incredibles" or "The Shadowkillers", or they can place one on "Team Incredibles" and one on "The Shadowkillers." They cannot put both on the same team, nor can they assimilate both.

No, once you are eliminated your points vanish. If you get brought back in on Second Chance Challenge, you're point count starts back from zero and you can work up from their, but the points you had before being eliminated go away when you get eliminated. Sorry.
