2015 Discussion Thread: Universal wins the calendar year | SW: TFA - biggest film domestic, 3rd biggest film worldwide

Recommended Posts

Yeah I still dont want it. Overcrowding is an overstatement with that. These movies wont be able to thrive to their full potential and smaller movies could get lost in the mix. Just my opinion.

You don't think 2016 will be as bad. As we have seen smaller films can do fine, look at December 2009 and other dates. Its another thing is movies that don't deserve the gross get put in those dates. Won't be able to thrive? AoU will make 230M in 3 days, 400M+ in 2 weeks that is not thriving? SW7 could have 3 weeks for itself til JPIV. If AoU can make 400M in 2 weeks surely SW7 can do this in 3 weeks. These legs aren't going to be cut off on June 26 due to the Terminator. SW7 can still do some damage til ID4 weekend. For ID4 weekend AoU will be at 7-8M, with ID4-2, Untitled Illumination that can be anything, what if its a Cat in the Hat type performance? By July 10th all of the AoU and SW7 should be fading, so you got POTCV vs ID4-2 ( 2nd wknd) vs T5 (3rd wknd): 95M OW, 40M, 14M (July 18, 2008/May 27, 2009/May 24, 2013) those are examples of similar weekends. July movies if big enough have proven to keep up with Memorial releases. July 17 will be a reverse situation of 2006. Then you have a an action-horror vs animation followed by an open weekend and ending with Bourne.

2016

Avatar 2

Fast 8

Robopocalypse

TASM3

Untitled Pixar/Disney Animation

DCU

2 Marvel movies - An IM4 perhaps

Saying 2015 is full and to dump the movies in 2016 is wrong. Still 1-2 years til a better picture of 2016, but so far looking pretty good. As of now 2015 has those open dates and why not use them?

Why on Earth do people think SW and TA will release in the same damn month?!?! Seriously...why do people think Disney would do that?

If anything, I could see Batman & Superman taking Memorial Day weekend just for the headlines. " DC knocks Marvel from top spot over holiday weekend"

You think a movie on its 4th weekend could win against another movie? Doesn't happen often, lets look at how it would play out.

OW - 230M

2nd wknd - 105M

3rd wknd - 47M

4th wknd - 32M

So a movie that would make more than 32M+ would be enough to take it out.

I think you completely missed what I was saying.

Terminator is already on June 26, the same date that gave Paramount very happy moments this year. I doubt they will move it to the Memorial Day weekend when T4 bombed there.

Also, do you really think Paramount will release both WWZ2 and M:I5 in December?

No SW, NYSM2, JPIV or WWZ2.

Edit: Just saw notes on WWZ and SW. SW has been confirmed for Summer 2015 and WWZ is getting fast tracked. As is Bourne and Mi5.

I don't think has to do with T4 (date), T4 had other problems.

I think M:I5 will be released on the weekend before Easter. It will give it a big OS push and put it with more distance from Avengers. There is no way they give it only a 2 weeks distance. The movie will get dead on his 3rd weekend.

Rebound on 4th and 5th if competition is limited.
