For your information, TMK has announced that it is going to apply for an extension of its screening. Given the endorsement by the government, it will be granted for sure and remain in the theatres for another month or so. Here is to ¥1 billion gross.

Just amazes me that there is an application to begin with. Y'all fill out an application to go to the bathroom at work? censor in the next stall to make sure there's no monkey business?

That's actually a reference to a post I just made in Japan

That's why I hate censorship. It's bad, and ridiculous. And it's everywhere in China. In fact, it's in everyone's mind in China. Basically the government censors everything.

The first thing that comes into your mind before you even start to write an article, a piece of news report, a paper, a script, a novel is "can it pass the censorship?"

The writer censors it, then the plublicator/producer censors it, then the official authorities censor it and finally the society censors it. Fail any procession, your work will be killed.

But the worst thing of all, is that there is no clearly written rule. This makes China's censorship different to any other country in the world. The worst kind of.

Under this condition, talking of literary creation is a luxury.

The actuals have been consistently higher by 1-2m on MH and 300-400k on TMK. Making this weeks performance even more amazing.

MH dropped from 24% to 21% shows was at 17% last Friday.

should come in at high 20s. down 5-10% from yesterday,  -35-40% from last week

TMK dropped from 10% to 8.25% shows

will come in between 8-9m down 10-20% from yesterday as well as from last Thursday. Huge hold

Two new releases may do 10m today +/-2m

JB and TMK could still take second and third

Many more openers tomorrow. Have to wait and see about show % before knowing how the weekend holds for these two

It would be amazing if this is the case. Then, MH has a chance to be the top grossing movie of all time in China. JB man could be the second all-time highest grossing local movie. TMK may just reach ¥1 billion yuan. Edited by sgchn40

Journey to the West 2 starts filming today. Cast lineup: Kris Wu (also in Stephen Chow's The Mermaid) as the monk. Lin Gengxin (was in Tsui Hark's Taking of the Tiger Mountain) as Monkey King. Yao Chen seems to be in the movie too. Directed by Tsui Hark and produced by Stephen Chow. Set to release in Lunar New Year 2017.

Wonder how it'll do.
