China Box Office Thread | Deadpool & Wolverine- July 26

In Singapore, we have companies who basically booked an entire screening as part of staff benefits. The military once bought the entire afternoon sessions for the American movie: Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List. Maybe this does not happen in the West at all. For discussion sake, should we be counting such sponsored screenings? When does it cross the line?

In the cases you presented that's perfectly fine, those entities, separate from the studio, were inspired by the film to buy tickets en mass for their people. The film earned it. A government mandate on one of its own films is different. Like the book by Mao that all Chinese citizens must own sold 100m's of copies but isn't on most all time best sellers list. In the case of a studio buying its own. That's downright wrong, but there is no BO committee on this like the Olympics and the studios have the final word for reporting numbers. BOM or BO or Deadline will not be using any asterisk as suggested in the article. They cant be bothered. I mean the guy that wrote that it isn't kosher and there should be an asterisk didn't bother to use the proper XR for the run and is under reporting the gross in $'s after speaking of FF7 gross in $s. So much for being official

BTW. Using the asterisk for records was supposedly invented by baseball when Maris hit 61 homeruns in 1961 in a 162 game season beating Ruths 60 in a 154 game season, but they have a committee and a Commissioner that take that shit seriously and the record books publish accordingly

August box office was 3.62B, +41% from the same month of 2014, a heathy increase although Aug 2014 only increased 10% from Aug 2013.

Yealy box office by Aug 31 is over 29.3B. If the rest four months follow a 41% growth on average, 2015 will reach 42.5B. I expect a 3.7B Sep/Oct, a sub 3B Nov and a 3.5~4B Dec, which makes a 43.2B+ 2015. Looking for surprise.

Not every soldier wants to see the films. :) The films are used in a way as "education" too. But I do believe that China is inhibiting its own economic growth by trying to control everything. The market can then only be as big as the political system is able to "contain" it. There is an estimate going around that about 16m of MH gross last week came from "social contribution" by the film company.

THRO is going to dominate Victory Day box office?

"To help boost the atmosphere for the Sept. 3 military parade in Beijing, several central government departments and non-government organizations have asked their staff, Communist Party members, and organizations under their administration to go to theaters to support the film".

I hope MI5 flies pass 200M USD which is very likely.

As a Minions hater, I wish Minions has shitty legs since its bound to open huge.

What's the buzz like for MI5 and Minions now in China? Which is more anticipated?

Any updated predictions on your end, Kylin?

September will be huge

What is your forecast for the next releases? Hollywood releases have been debated a lot, but are there big local films coming?
