Yeah, I really hate this.

Most 3D blockbusters get no 2D shows.

That is good news for MOS since it'll help with overall gross. 3D prices are sure more expensive.

Hmm, there's that too I forgot, and I was talking about how higher ticket prices (especially for fancier yet totally unnecessary formats) turning people off from watching a movie in theater with Bluebomb just yesterday. Silly me

Star Trek Into Darkness holds on to the top spot at the China Box Office for a second week, but Jay Sun's action-packed spy thriller Switch arrives late in the week and already looks like a huge success.

J. J. Abrams' big budget Star Trek sequel holds firm at the top of the chart, but there was no real competition for pole position, so manages to do so despite only pulling in a modest RMB78 million in its second week. Peter Chan's American Dreams in China wrung another RMB51 million out of punters, putting it at RMB475 million after 24 days on release, but both films are about to be eclipsed by the Andy Lau action vehicle, Switch. 

 

On its first day of release, Switch came close to matching Dreams' entire haul for the week, taking RMB49 million on Sunday alone. The debut feature from TV producer Jay Sun was originally slated for a November 2012 release and has been repeatedly pushed back, re-edited and post-converted into 3D for mainland audiences. Despite the fact it really isn't any good, Andy Lau's star power shows no signs of letting up andSwitch could well prove to be a monster summer hit.

Lower down the charts, Olivier Megaton's 2011 actioner, Colombiana, finally opened last week and quietly pulled in a modest RMB13 million after 6 days, while Hong Kong Lunar New Year comedy I Love Hong Kong 2013 also debuted in the past week, netting RMB10 million. Hollywood blockbusters The Croods,Iron Man 3 and Oblivion all managed to stay another week in the chart, while domestic blockbuster So Young, from actress Zhao Wei, and fellow thesp Charlie Young's Christmas Rose, both dropped out of the top ten.

In the week ahead, a string of locally produced films are looking to get a piece of the action before the arrival of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel on 20 June. Supernatural thrillers Mysterious Face and Bu Bu Zhui Hun 3D, drama Time to Show and animation Voyage Extraordinaire 3D all hit screens in the next seven days, but the smart money will be on Andy Lau taking all the money this side of Superman.

Hmm, so even after the confirmed partnership that should help WB major releases in China, looks like MOS is still getting screwed somewhat by them? How much would Jet Li movie affect MOS?
