Agreed... I myself hate the fact that the nearest theater from where I live is somewhere around 18 miles away (It's actually in another city - main city of the state, should we say? (Like LA is for Los Angeles state)). I don't have a chance to go there very often and that's why i recur mostly to downloading movies. When I do get the chance to go though, I'm not missing it.

Wow, Portugal and now Romania. Is moviegoing still big in Europe? Are their other forms of entertainment that heavily compete with movies? Edited by kayumanggi

My workmates laugh at me always. They always ask why do I watch movies in theaters. Like where should I watch it? Watching movies in theaters is still the best. THE BEST.

Agree! II work with a group of people that actually watch movies in theaters as form of hanging out/bonding although I rarely join them. Although they download a lot as well and they are surprised whenever they find out that I don't have a lot of movies in my computer given that I'm a movie buff. :DIf I can afford it, I would buy a lot of DVDs as well but well I'm not so I just wait for the price to go down steeply or whenever there's a sale lol

In some countries still is. Others, not so much. Games and concerts really raped movies in the last year over here. And this year looks to be the best year of all-time for concerts here. Muse, Bon Jovi, Justin Bieber, One Direction, Iron Maiden, Rihanna and Rammstein between many others are coming to Portugal this year. Most of them already sold out. People just download or see in stream online every movie possible. Edited by CJohn

It is... It's quite impressive. I mean theater averages in Romania can reach up to $15k-$30K which is very, very impressive considering that a movie ticket costs around 5$, compared to the US.The only disadvantage is that there are very few screens. I mean in Romania there are around 21 screen in the whole country... If there were more (100-200) the money would flow easier. That's why Europe is doing so shitty - they lack of theaters. No, there is no other form of entertainment that could possibly challenge this. (Other than games as John stated, but that's for douches, and we don't care about douches) Edited by ChD

That is really sad. Are ticket prices high?

Me too. DVDs are cheaper these days. I bought my brother FIVE DVDs worth P1000 ($25).

I don't download movies for over a year because our second biggest theater chain is close all his theaters during 2013 and because our distributors are facing major financial problems. All of that makes me really sad and angry at this shit hole called Portugal.

I'm quite impressed with the way you think given how young you are, I mean you care about stuff like distributors going bankrupt when most people your age don't give a shit about those things. You really love movies :)

What is my proof that I didn't have connection? They can always say, "No, you had".

Well once I give them the report number the agent gave me when I called then it's all good ;) I still think the money they deduct from my bill is low compared to the days I had no Internet but well it wll be a long discussion and I have no time for that haha Edited by forg

The closest decent theatre to me is an hour away

21 screens? Wow. I'm surprised. Manila has more than that and that's just one city. What is your population?

With screens I meant cinemas/theaters (that adds up to more screens than there). Still, population averages at 19M I think, but with the current economy...

That is really sad. Are ticket prices high?

About 5.50€ for students and 6.50€ for adults. Add 2.20€ to each one and you get the price of a 3D ticket. Those prices are considered extremely expensive by everyone because they say they can watch it for free. Everyone I know doesn't go to the movies more than 2 or 3 times a year and much less buy DVDs. We had 6 months without Universal Home Releases. And I won't be surprised if movies stop being edited here on DVD.

I have both yes so I can drive their thankfully.

You're lucky then. I have neither a car of a job to have the money to go to movies whenever I want... I need to get it somehow... Still, I go as often as possible. Really looking forward to get a job and finally go to the movies whenever I want. It's not that long distance (if you think so, my school is also in that city so I'm doing a 18miles drive every morning and every afternoon) Edited by ChD

I see. So the economy is terrible too. I hope Europe rebounds fast.

We still have a lot of theaters here but they are all in the malls :D I think that's a factor why moviegoing is still strong here despite us being a 3rd world country we Filipino love going to the malls and there's a mall in all major cities here ;) .There are few standalone theaters left but they mostly show low-rent soft core porn stuff with scary things going when the lights go off lol

I went 100 times to the movies last year. I can't live without it and it gets me mad only to think I live in a country that treats so badly movies and theaters.18 theaters (16 actually... 2 already closed last week) will close during this year. That just kills me inside. The 2nd biggest theater chain of our country is going down and nobody gives a fuck about it.PTAs are horrible here. Every time I look at BOM portuguese top to see the PTAs I shake my head... Edited by CJohn
