85th Academy Awards (24/2/13) Official Thread- TONIGHT!! NOMINEES IN THE FIRST POST

Recommended Posts

LA times did an article on why Argo shouldn't win. I liked it (even if I don't think it would be a bad choice), especially this bit:

For though "Argo" is undeniably an accomplished piece of work, there was a time within the memory of those living when turning out films like this was what the studios did for a living. It used to be that smart, entertaining adult vehicles like "Argo" were simply business as usual for Hollywood, the bread and butter of a busy industry that consistently delivered adult entertainments in genres without number. In those days a film like "Argo" would in no way stand out far enough from the crowd to be the favorite for the best picture Oscar.

Argo should win because it has been winning all the way. If anything else wins it`ll be forever tainted by Affleck snub. Just let it happen. Sometimes it`s better to lose than win. Awards are never clean cut and it`s never about what`s the best and this year is no exception and so far it`s been all about a ridiculous snub and vindication and that`s what it`ll be remembered no matter who and what wins. So just let Argo win and close the circle. It`s Argo/Affleck year anyway you slice it.

No way waltz is that low

Why not? Actors above him are among the most respected in the industry. he`s still a newcomer from QT movies type of a deal. So sample (not all AMPAS voters) that EW polled went with tried and true. See how close Field is to Hathaway? same thing.

So media has resigned to Riva win or they are trying to influence it? Ever since BAFTA they are chanting in unision.

The media seems to want a Riva win. They want a win for the ages because it'd make good stories, as Jennifer Lawrence winning won't sell papers. (her target demo diesn't buy papers or listen to the news)
