Festival de Cannes 2013 (Screening tomorrow THE IMMIGRANT starring Joaquin Phoenix)

It comes out in Taiwan on May 17th. Dunno about that India date, but I seriously doubt it'll actually be a day-and-date release. The U.S. release doesn't break the rule because the U.S. is its country of origin (well, okay, the U.S. and Australia). And both Robin Hood and Midnight in Paris were released in France on the same day they opened the festival, so there's no reason it couldn't happen again with Gatsby. Not much of a "premiere" when paying audiences can see the movie on the same day, but the point is to bring the stars out.

Peter Chan's American Dreams in China has reportedly had its Chinese release pushed back from April 16th to May 15th to coincide with the festival. The report is a little confusing since it claims it'll have a "world premiere" at Cannes, which is impossible since the 15th is the opening day and Gatsby has that slot. My guess is it'll screen on the 16th or 17th, which would provide lots of coverage in the Chinese press leading into the weekend. I'd say the chances of it being a competition title are very slim, but Chan has had an out-of-competition slot before (Wu Xia).

Alright people, here's the thread for the biggest movie festival in the world that is once again held in May in Cannes, France. Steven Spielberg has been announced as the head of the Main Competition Jury, and Oscar-nominee Jane Campion leads the Cinefoundation and Short Film juries.
