Strong films can do well under those circumstances. Jump Streets run has been overshadowed by THG and may well have done better without it. It's done really well though.
I mean we all saw what happened to films that were too close to THG. They all suffered. JC and Wrath were completely overshadowed by it and films didn't do well the next week or two after either.
I don't know about that. THG hype has died down a bit now. The market has been empty for weeks and that had a fair bit to do with the numbers it's doing IMO. Prime for a breakout. I don't think it would have done the same numbers two weeks ago.

It's okish, but with a film with this budget Universal would have been hoping for more. I doubt it Nah. The budget for this is about 210M and it has a huge marketing budget too. It's not going to do much better than VOTDT did worldwide and that had a considerably smaller budget than this does.

The reason anyone mentions Whedon on this site is because he's directing The Avengers which a lot of people are looking forward to, whoever the director is. I doubt many people would care much otherwise. You can go on about Whedon loonies if you want but there's only one person on this site that's obsessed with Whedon.
