  1. Beautiful!70M weekend is looking more and more like a possibility.
  2. Well, WOM definitely can mean a lot for a sequel. It seems you think that this only appleals to fans of the books, which is simply not true. A lot of people who watched HG on the opening weekend never read the books. This film has way more mainstream appeal than Potter.
  3. Yeah, but it's not comparable to an actual kids flick like Lorax, where 70% of the audience were parents and little children.Alice's drops on Monday were fairly normal.
  4. Yes, there is a good chance HG stays flat on Thursday. Also, Alice was not really a kids film. 44% of its audience was 25 or older. So, we may well see similar increases on Friday, Saturday.
  5. This is a good hold. It's tracking way ahead of Spider Man 3, and if it starts to perform like SM3 from now on, it will end up with 70M weekend. I don't think competition with Titans will hurt it, but the loss of IMAX surely will.
  6. It doesn't work this way for huge movies. Again, DH2 had pretty terrible Tuesday hold, but it's Wednesday hold was ok.
  7. That's a good hold. The final Harry Potter fell 15% on its first Tuesday.
  8. Overseas grosses are negligible for this as expected. Not that Lionsgate cares. I understand they sold off foreign distribution rights.
  9. Disappointing relative to my hopes/expectations.
  10. Kinda disappointing. I was hoping it could challenge TDK. Next week will be interesting.
  11. I think lots of bad press JC is getting internationally is hurting it's box office prospects.
  12. I hear there is very little actual violence in this movie. China allowed Resident evil afterlife, so why should they ban this?
  13. Yes, and don't forget the 16M OW in Russia. John Carter is a big-budget sci-fi action-adventure movie in 3D. These are the reasons why it did well around Asia. 3D contributed to its grosses, but I don't think it would have flopped without it (look at Prince of Persia for comparison). I don't expect TASM to triple or quadruple that just because it's based on a more popular property. POTC4 felt a lot like a reboot with 2 major characters removed and Johnny Depp transformed into the sole lead. The concept the series changed, and that turned off part of the audience. TF3 was a direct sequel in every way, coming only 2 years after the last film. Also, 3D factor was exceptional for TF3. Some people wanted Transformers because of 3D. It's not going to be the same way for Spiderman.
  14. It can gross 100M in China, but does it have the potential to set OW records across Asia? Pirates 4 barely improved on AWE despite 3D and 4 years of market expansion. I think it may be a good comparison for Spider Man.
  15. I would expect it to be fairly frontloaded. It seems to be frontloaded in the US.
  16. Don't get the logic behind 700M+ predicts. TASM is a reboot, not a direct sequel to SM3, so this should limit its potential. And it only has one week before it will be trumped by Ace Age 4 in many markets, and then comes the Batman movie.575M
  17. Aside from Iron Man, the Avengers characters are virtually unknown overseas. The only way this thing can succed overseas is if they market it as "Iron Man + friends". 3D should help in countries like Russia, Mexico, but I expect no more than 400M for now.
  18. I expect this to do very well in English-speaking countries, but flop everywhere else.150M
